internet connection problem

hi guys i reinstalled xp pro on my computer as i was having a lot of problems previously but since the reinstall i justy cannot connect to the internet...
even tho the cable is connected to the modem and computer it still says cable unplugged... before the reinstall everything was working just fine...

amy ideas as to how i can sort this out...

check the obvious, NIC drivers, check the NIC is enabled etc..

What were the problems before the install?
 
No BSOD that you can recall before the re-install?

XP pro what service pack level? Did the install go smoothly or give you hassles? Installed the drivers in order? Motherboard ones first.

It could be a number of things yet, could just be a blown NIC, and from the previous install a virus, overheating, bad PSU, overclocking, motherboard slowly dying that caused the freezing.
