Internet Solutions Uncapped ADSL under fire

Well done IS, placed the dynamite under your feet, pulled out the lighter, thought twice about it and still did it!

Already migrating users to Mweb for fractional amount more per month. My users cannot even browse sites during the day it is so bad. The users will be happy with no more hair pulling exercises.

It is hard to define this as uncapped because you cant download anything but then they will not cap you???? All very ambiguous.
Come on IS. Come to the party! Mweb is killing you.

maybe they REALLY don't want to participate in this market, but feel they need to offer a product?

Then why release a product and tarnish your name. They are losing credibility every day, as I make it clear to everyone exactly where the problem is. Its a bizarre shaping solution for a "uncapped product". Whomever thought this solution up should be fired for ruining IS reputation.

the "20%" policy is flawed. That means that at any time 20% of your users will be pi**ed off due to crappy speeds. The 50% rule is even more outrageous. Why would you treat your customers that way? Instead of branding the product "uncapped" it should be branded "up to 30gb on 384kbps" (or whatever the limits are).

Won't this result in a lower and lower average because everyone is trying to guess how much everyone else is downloading to stay below the threshold, thus continuously lowering the threshold?

According to feedback from this ISP his client was listed as an ‘abuser’ after his usage of 25 GB pushed him into the ‘top 20%’ of users who are shaped in line with the IS FUP.
25GB in 2 days? I'm perfectly happy with that dude being shaped if it means I get faster speeds :)

That would solve a lot of problems, but probably wouldn't enhance sales.

@freematrix - I have no idea as to why they do anything, especially releasing one flawed 'uncapped' product after another.

I have an idea that is exactly what they intended.

“A user will not be shaped in any way if their usage patterns are in line with our average usage

So let's all download as much as possible.... then the average user will be on 200gb lol

The new "Russian Roulette' = IS UNCAPPED.
There is a 20% chances you will OFF yourself, tata machance tata madownloads !

Oh god!!! After 25GB he's on the top 20% list. What a load of crap!! Oh well...time to switch over to MWeb.

Anybody please correct me but ...

Currently a user getting close to 100GB a month will be shaped, afaik.

4 Mb line, running 24/7 should give ...

4 Megabits per second / 8 Bits per byte
= 0.5 Mb per second max transfer rate.

0.5 Mb per second x 60 seconds per minute & 60 minutes per hour x 24 hours per day
= 43 200 Mb per day
= 42.1875 Gb per day

On average a month has 30 days so

42.1875 Gb per day x 30 Days per month
= 1 265.625 Gb per month

100 Gb / 1 265.625 * 100
= 7.9 % usage of max capacity.

So ...

For a 4 MB line you need to pay
R 500 Hellkom Port Fee
R 500 ISP Port Fee
R 180 Telkom "I wanna play with the big boys fee ..."

So for R1200 / month you are allowed 8 % utilization of your own equipment before you are shaped and capped and deemed dangerous to society ...

ps: I know this is all ideal, no overhead taken into consideration, so I would even go up to 10% ...

But - would you buy a car if you have to push it 900m out of every kilometre?

Where did you read 'in 2 days'? The article doesn't state over what period the gigs were used.
