Invalid CD-key

I would just take it back to Makro and exchange it for a new one.

Anyway when makro sends it back they discontinue that key generate a new one for the box and ship it out again.

So I cant see any issues with sending it back.
I did once with Half life the key was invalid took it back the just replaced the box with a new one and a new key.

But yeah phone steam first and if they cant help then take it back.

I am just worried the longer you wait the less helpfull they will become, so dont wait for steam phone them rather even if its a intl call.
or
Take it back today.

My friend bought DoW2 from Game around christmas, but was unable to install it until last night due to housesitting (and not having internet at hand). When he finally tried to install the game, it told him the serial key was already in use.
So he is heading to game today with receipt in hand to deliver hell unto Game.
And I so wanted to try out the co-op campaign last night :(

There's no way steam or activision's gonna do anything for you. Someone clearly already bought the game, activated the key and then returned the game. That person probably think's they scored, the only way you're gonna get your game is by speaking to the dudes at the shop.

Why don't they just keep the original sealed game and stick the anti theft sticker/code thing and add new packaging on that one.

I know incredible connections has open cases. My friend showed me. He just walked in with another friend. Communicated in afrikaans to each other and in front of the employee got the cd key while he is watching. The guy though they were looking at the booklet. Its easy it seems to get the cd key and then the poor person buying the game has a head ache trying to solve the problem.

I saw with guild wars the complete edition the cd key is like those old airtime vouchers that you scratch off. Now that is a good idea. Put the cd key on the outside so people can see if its scratched off or not.

I've gotten 2 new cd keys for ToCA Race Driver 2 from Codemasters since I got the game, I just emailed them and ask for a cd key and attached a picture of the game disc, with my email on the background of the screen. I even did it to get a Floorplan 3D CD key once.

They get lost so easily... :)

I bought Rome: Total War in CNA for R35. It has CD Key stuck to the inside cover but when you install it does not ask you for the key. :D

maybe it works same as X3....

well, for R35, it would hardly be a loss in the CD key doesn't work. I seem to have had R500 stolen from me...

This is exactly why I hate STEAM. I've heard of this stuff happening before, but damn. It takes time to fix and time is precious.

This happened to me with BF2142.
I phoned EA, the guy (Scott?!?) told me to take it back to Incredible Connection and they MUST give me a new copy (sealed!!!) and if they give me issues, I must give them his number and he'll sort it out.

I went back, told them the story and they replaced it.

But, back then, the problem was, people were putting games on the shelves and taking the CDS out, not taking the manuals / stickers (inside) the cases and kids were going, opening the boxes and snapping pictures of the CD keys.

They've wised up since then.

Now, EA etc give shops 'sample' boxes to put on shelves.

I do however suggest you take the game back ASAP!
The longer you have it, the less likely they are to help you.
Explain the story, be nice, they should sort you out, if not, I suggest contacting STEAM, they a helpful bunch, just take clear photos and scan your receipt etc and don't send that info till asked for it, but make sure it's all clear and readable.

dude take the thing back, they probly took the cd's out and left the key in. Take it back talk 2 a manager and swear at some 1. Its there fault they must give u a new 1

Ok, so yesterday I went to makro in a huff and puff... I was also swearing a lot (but it was really hot :(), so, they took the game back and credited me R500 (what I paid for the game).

Now, I finally get home after a drunken party around JHB, and I check me email account... and now Steam Finally gets back to me about it and they've move the game to my account :p, lol. So when I buy the game later today, I'll have two CD-keys :p. lol
