iOS 5 details

It's a very noticeable trend of late. By far the majority of fanboi trolls seem to be Android users.

I cant blame them, I might even be one of them depending on how you look at my posts. It must be noted that the trolling did start with the iPhone users, and I have seen plenty of iPhone trolling as well.

I guess where compilation gets close you will find the people that is going to troll, we see it in all the nvidia vs ati or Microsoft vs Linux or the Intel vs AMD type of threads. I just find one liner trolls sad, I dont mind if people troll constructive but the "Product x is the best live with it" posts we can do without.

I'm glad they fixed a few things that irked me a bit. Will see which new phone I will take - it will either be the SGS2, HTC Sensasion or the iPhone 5 if the specs are similar. Almost identical to last years years choice I had to make.

All devices has a few things that still has a few things that doesn't sit well with me.

That's the thing. iCloud on BIS is the answer and that is why if I was MS I would buy RIM and launch an iCloud competitor for WP running on BIS. I just don't see RIM getting it right, but I'm open to be proven wrong.
Why not just run dropbox on the BB?

I've had my Galaxy S with Android for almost a year now. Can honestly say that my inital "IluvAndroid" relationship has systematically morphed into utter disgust and contempt for the damn thing. The only thing that works flawlessly on my Android now is its ability to show "force close" messages around every turn and I'm sick and tired of having to play around with ROM versions only to find out they all suck after weeks of use. Also, the applications on Android are horrendous sometimes, I was hoping they would have improved by now (take an example: You can't turn off that stupid image bar thing on the official Facebook app. Just try and use it when you only have GPRS reception). Then there's the constant application updates on Android. Updates followed by more updates.... update, update update with almost no improvements made (just tons of fixes for the 2 Billion+ types of Android phones on the market.

No thank you. I'm done with Android, can't wait to switch over to iOS again. I've actually started using my old iPhone 3G again just so I can get stuff done while still having a phone with enough charge to get to the next day. Not to mention Android competely ****s its pants when you have bad signal (thanks, Vodacom) whilst my iPhone still remains responsive and useful in the same conditions.
One thing that did suck about iOS was the way it handled notifications compared to Android. We'll, that's fixed now.

RaptorSA, I like this honest post. I'm so sick of people trying to push their current devices down others' throats and not tell us the bad stuff also. There is no perfect device/brand out there and when people only sell the good they tempt others to fall in the same traps they are in (but not telling anybody). It's like some people will feel better when they can pull more people into the booby traps they're stuck in themselves.

Apple is a hypocrite

First they sue Samsung for "copying" iPhone and iPad
http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/18/apple-sues-samsung-over-for-copying-the-iphone-and-ipad/

Then they copy Android and BBM.
1. Cloud Synchronization - Google inovation.
2. Notifications Center - what can I say?
3. Over-the-air updates
4. Photo sharing
5. Twitter - Android allows any action to be associated
and
6. iMessenger = BBM
7. Tabbed browsing

Apple does not innovate, they copy:
For a company that called 2011 the "year of the copycats" and who is suing others over "copying", Apple sure has a lot of egg on their face.

I wrote on this forum a week or so back about this colleague of mine who got the Wildfire after the salesman convinced him not to go for anything but Android ("Android is the best!"). The guy wanted a BlackBerry 9300 but was talked out of it by the salesman. This person now sits with a R1600 data bill after month one because the same salesman didn't inform the buyer that there is actually a huge cost implication not going for the BB and BIS and not explaining the absolute necessity of using data bundles when going for Android.

That is an absolute lie. You can turn off all the data needs of the phone, sure if you leave it default it will help itself to a large portion. My wildfire has a normal pre paid sim with no data on it and it is doing just fine with syncing only using WiFi. There is many ways to limit your mobile data use as well.

Yes, but you know about this and the other person didn't. I also don't use data bundles anymore and just use wifi. But I do feel limited in this regard with my android phone, where when I was with BB it didn't concern me at all.

Exactly. BIS is everywhere. This guy does not have ADSL and Wi-Fi at home or at work and he obviously wanted to use all the great functionality Android offered after all the salesman's talk. I also don't appreciate being called a liar.

Dude, I made the mistake of announcing my dissatisfaction with Android a few days ago on Facebook. It was sad and almost amusing to see my "geek" friends lose their **** over it. That made me even more confident that getting off it was the right thing to do. It's turned more into a religion that anything else. Luckily I don't give a crap what anyone has to say. I've used both, and I know I'm more than technically adept enough to make my own informed decision about what sucks and what doesn't. But I know what you mean, I also HATE it when people don't tell the full story.

Anyway, to get back to the topic. This release from Apple looks great. I must say they've done a great job at constantly "keeping" up with the rest. I'm actually going to have to choose between iOS or Windows Phone 7 next. I think iOS still looks like a better option but being a .NET developer does make Windows Phone 7 look enticing. Let me just say this again: I'm SO glad Apple finally improved the notification implementation on their OS. That was my biggest gripe with iOS and from the videos I've seen it looks like they've done a great job with it.

I did not call you a liar, I stated that an Android phone can be used without data bundles.

PS dont take it so personal :)

Thats poor form from the salesman.

If you dont have access to wifi, i dont think android or iOS can work for you without taking a hit on data costs.

The big hits on data come from downloading and updating apps. I must add, day to day use does not consume too much data (i.e. facebook, browsing the web, twitter, e-mail, and whatsapp etc)

I also have a SGS, and I also was less than satisfied with it after a week or so. I am running on Gingerbread now and I am still certain it is the best choice I could have made when I got the phone. But if Blackberry makes a phone that appeals to me, I will almost certainly jump back. I don't think I will go the iPhone route although I did consider it very strongly, there is a few things that made me decide against it. It all depends on what you want as an individual. There is no best phone, but there is a best phone for you.

Personally I have had none of the issues you stated about your phone, so I can but say sorry you had a bad taste but know exactly how you feel. Same reason I avoid Toyota like the plague. Had one bad car and from there on they all are crap in my eyes.

Pity people dont respect others likes and dislikes, maybe just get new friends :)

Elimentals, what a lot of geeks (I'm one too) don't get is that most people out there (by far the majority) don't have the knowledge and skills required to understand all the possibilities and risks associated with technology. They listen to geeks "who knows best" and then often end up with a device that works for the geek but not for the person who pays for it on contract over 24 months. We must be careful. BlackBerry is the perfect solution for many many people - especially those with very limited budgets - but geeks convince them to rather go for Android because it does "everything better". Most people that I deal with wants a simple solution that does the basics they actually need best. And most need an affordable solution.

+1

Not you Elimentals. I'm referring to the "BB sux lolz, Android FTW OMG" crap being posted completely out of context and irrelevant to the subject under discussion - in every thread. I don't mind it either if people consistently, but constructively, punt their choice.

No biggie, just thought I throw it out there. :)

You said a sales person told him to get a Android? They will always promote something that lets you part with more money. I know there are "geeks" that tell people to get X or Y instead, but normally you will find that those are more "fans" than actual people that know products. And yes I told my neighbor to get a BB even after he saw my phone and wanted one as well. His was stolen and got a insurance claim to get a new one. Being that he was over 50 and a business person I advised him against iPhone and Android purely for the reason that he used his phone to communicate allot with the office and have no need for the extra features.
