iPad 10.5 Pro (2017) 64gb wifi - bought in 2018, couple of days ago it randomly reboots twice in the space of 10 minutes.

A day later it randomly gets stuck in a boot loop. And it's been iffy ever since.

I've tried it all and nothing offers any degree of stability.

Just recently I've erased and deleted all contents in an attempt to set it up as a new device on a fresh install.

I can barely get through the initial configuration and setup menus before it reboots itself. Sometimes it reboots into the lockscreen, other times it gets stuck in a boot loop where I need to do a hard reset to get it back to the lockscreen.

Not entirely sure what could be causing these issues but I suspect a failing piece of hardware.

I've all but ruled out it being rogue software issue.

Any theories?

Any potential solutions?

Where does one take an iPad to be repaired beyond the obligatory screen or battery replacement?

TIA

Just dropped it off at Melrose Arch branch, R250 non refundable assessment fee.

If it's anything other than the battery they'll need to send it to Cape Town for assessment.

Seems f uck all IP left in Johannesburg these days...

Malakies...

Back in the day things didnt just die, these days crap just dies for no reason.

My iPad Air Gen 1 is still going strong.

Hmmmm... I have a 2nd gen Air won off of this very forum which is still fully functional!!

I won a Amazon Fire too, off of this very forum, that was defective right out the box!!

Goes to show you....

So I called the repair centre this morning...

The techie has ordered a replacement battery as his assessment indicates the current one has degraded.

He will install a new battery, test and revert.

I'm not sure how battery degradation leads to a boot loop and/or random restarts but I'm hopeful (not convinced that it is) this is the issue.

So I called the repair centre this morning... (they don't call me despite assurances they would with updates, repair agent claims he tried calling me yesterday (BS))

So the unit still reboots on the new battery, they've apparently sent the unit to Cape Town for further assessments. Suspect it's a mainboard issue, no surprises there...

You do get cases where because the battery doesn’t maintain a constant burst output it either causes freezing or just very bad performance.

The difference between capacity and ability really.

It’s where the whole iPhone throttling saga stemmed from.

You reckon?

Hmmmmm.... possibly, will take it in and have it checked out. I'm not convinced.
Happened to me many times on Android when removable batteries were still a thing and Paki shops with their old no name branded batteries. Phone would randomly reboot or battery life would drop from 30% to 0%.

Batteries swelling can also indirectly damage other components.

Usually the screen first, but it’s not out of the question it could have leaked or affected a logic board part.

Well, while we continue to speculate what the issue could be, I'm yet to here back from them. Guess I'll have to call them to find out what's going on? Warranted, the Easter weekend messes with companies schedules... but still...

And I'm guessing the feedback is going to be something along the lines of, "not financially viable to repair"...

So I called around 9.30am. They could tell me nothing but said they'd phone back shortly with feedback.

Still waiting. Let's see. Cellularcity Melrose arch by the way, if anyone is interested.

Update. So a week ago I get a quote of 2.7k for a new battery and a repair to the main board, which they claim will sort the iPad out. Good stuff. I give them the go ahead. They say 2 days.

The whole week this week I been phoning the workshop to find out when I can collect. Techie is either not at his desk or is busy. Never calls back or does and I miss his call. Whatever.

So today I decided it must be ready by now and I go to collect.

Techie is expecting me. Not only has the iPad not arrived back from cape town but the repair didn't take. It's no longer repairable.

3 weeks and counting and stuck on square one with these Muppets. What a farce!!

I'm so pissed off right now!!

Beyond useless!

R2.7k is too bad imo.

I'm just surprised it packed up.

I still have an iPad Gen 1 (from 2010) somewhere & my kid still uses an iPad Gen 3 (from 2012) for YT Kids.

These things normally have a long shelve-life.

I'm so irritated right now!!
What are they going to charge you for the assessment still just the R250?
Maybe now take it to an iStore and see what they say, nothing to lose.
Or sell it for spares/screen and buy a newer one.
I think your problem is just bad luck, iPads are incredibly robust.

R250 ja, ja, they are. My daughter been using it at school for the last 3 years or so. Chances are it’s been rammed into her school bag and chucked around. Kids these days, don’t know how to look after s hit…
