iPad Air is the iPad 5

Its strange how Apple and there competitors like Samsung have totally different ways of looking at things.

Apple will bring a 8 mega pixel camera on there iPhone Samsung will bring a 12 mega pixel and claim its better but in reality its not.
Apple will being say 1.8 Ghz cpu on there tablet samsung will bring a 1.9 Ghz (numbers not valid just making a point) and say its faster but in real life use its not.

Samsung try win on numbers and specifications apple try win on user experience and general happiness with there product. I don't know about you guys I like the apple philosophy better.

You guys are comparing resolutions by counting the amount of pixels on the screen so you are actually falling for Samsungs way of selling items thinking that more is better when sometimes its just more and has a negative effect on your experience. Apple chose to select a resolution that will give you perfect graphics vs viewing distance without the cost to CPU and battery life. Samsung give you resolution so that they can say look we have higher resolution than apple and they pay the price of poor battery life poor performance and apps that just don't fit properly.

I support apple because I like the way they think things out and not give features to customers that just are there as a gimmick and does not increase your experience

Is the IPAD the best I would say yes is it perfect no not at all but its getting there I cannot say the same for other tablets. Other tablets are all over the place not really having a true direction.

So I will be getting an IPAD air when it comes out here
 
So, we will never get a tablet from Apple with a higher resolution - nor an iphone? Safe to assume this is it?

Hrm.. I suspect that the battery life my not be as great with mini under heavy loaded conditions perhaps but yah.. Maybe there is some hidden or unmentioned additional limits.

That's the great thing of being in SA, by the time devices are available full reviews are too

Of course not. That's a very far fetched conclusion. But I doubt it'll be in the next 2 years at least, and it will probably be a big jump - like 4k. 600+ppi, something ridiculous. It will only become viable if the current pace of hardware is able to stay consistent.

Of course what you're wanting us to say is, 2048 is a perfect resolution because it was chosen by a sacred arcane ritual involving the ashes of Steve Jobs, and then you can say ah see they do change their minds. Which of course, is stupid, because they change their minds all the time.

It shouldn't change, unless the size of the device changes

It shouldn't change, unless the size of the device changes. Increasing the pixel count will just reduce battery for no benefit to the user.

I think the human eye can see a difference. You might not be able to distinguish individual pixels but there should be some impression of sharpness and detail that it adds. And, as long as Moore's Law is still working eventually the marginal cost of making another big resolution jump will be acceptable where it isn't right now.
 
So i was looking at vids of iPad reviews and they mention that it performs the same, new design is great blah blah... BUT.. the images seem to indicate some upscaling on edges. which makes me wonder, since res is the same.. maybe things look better on iPad Mini as Air presents it on a bigger screen so easier to niotice? kind like watching a SD vid on a 24' vs 46'. Same thing looks more cruddy on the latter..

Well they giving away software with new devices.. thinking they realized the need to update devices is becoming less important as tech has made incremental updating uneeded

Oh puhlease.

The Apple fanboys were the ones who couldn't stop comparing everything to the "retina displays". Resolution was everything and if your resolution wasn't at least retina quality it d crap. Now that Samsung has a higher resolution tablet all of a sudden resolution isn't that important.

The base OS is open but vital software is closed (Play Store, Gmail, Maps, Talk, and YouTube, etc). It is also built using the traditional close source approach, then opened after release, instead of the open development philosophy which underpins OSS.
On iOS, the lower level of the OS is open, but most of the layers above it are closed.

While Android is more open than iOS, neither are open.
If you want an open platform, you want Ubuntu or Firefox OS

It was a huge breakthrough in screen quality when it came out with iPhone4. But it definitely hit a point of diminishing return somewhere. I can't seem to get as enthralled about any of the 1080 phone screens no matter how many more pixels they've crammed in there. I do remember being quite impressed with a demo video on an S4 though so that's something.

I'm willing to put money down that the iPhone 6 will have a higher res...

If I remember correctly, one of the common negative points in reviews about the 5S was screen size, so there's no point in upping the size without a res increase.

Have to lol at some of these fanboy comments though ;)

Now I have an even more ridiculous idea and it's not far from Ubuntu touch but better implemented.

A 13 or 15-inch iPad.

Bear with me.

So you already run around with a MacBook in your bag half the time, if like me probably a MacBook and an iPad.

So what if you had a device that was iOS when mobile, but then you get to the office and it "docks" to your Thunderbolt Display as well as Bluetooth mouse and keyboard and instantly becomes OSX.

Considering iOS and OSX are based on the same Darwin core this ain't inconceivable. Add to that truly Universal packages and you can look at Apps that are the same yet different depending on the situation you find yourself in.

I would happily run around with a larger tablet that could dock as a Desktop.

Don't think anyone has said it yet but kinda disappointing that there is no touch ID. <-- enough to delay and see if they pull a iPad 3/4 refresh early next year with it. The camera thing not being as great as iPhone doesn't bother me too much as primary photo device is phone.(i'm one of those people that lmao at people at parties taking pics with a tablet)
