You should read it through, it's a good article and there's a thread about it in the Android forum. Google have been moving further and further away from including any worthwhile features in AOSP. Everything worthwhile in Android is in the apps, which are completely proprietary; and they're making it much more of a headache for branchers to come and make something new out of Android.

Yip, except that Microsoft is in the lead in this case, the Surface 2 looks quite nice.

There are also others like the Sony Vaio Duo 13.

I am thinking of going this way, at the end of the day W8.1 can still do a lot more than any tablet, and does not have the disadvantages of either iOS or Android.

I think they couldn't get it done en mass for expected sales. If i recall correctly they have production line delays with iPhone 5S for this reason

And you don't consider a barren app store to be a disadvantage or limitation?

What Sauronza describes is different. His proposed solution has two separate OSs that are switched on and off depending on need/environment. It's not the confusing mess of Windows 8 where one jumps between two environments within one OS. I prefer a solution where I can switch between two OS environments depending on need and circumstances. This may well be the plan with an iPad Pro (which I believe is in the works).
 
To switch between iOS and OSX can be as simple as connecting or disconnecting a mouse with the tablet (wired or wireless).
 
Such an iPad Pro will have a 12" screen and come with a separate hard keyboard dock with thunderbolt connection etc.

It's a minor disadvantage, if that.

You can run all the apps you've always used on your desktop on your x86 windows tablet. And then there is also bluestacks.

Does decent software mean not being able to open 80% of the most common file formats ? Mind you, not even being able to just read SD card contents without 3rd party apps ?
