iPad getting spanked with criticism

I rate this is fantastic product for browsing the web and as a pdf reader. Imagine taking one of these with all ur textbooks to campus. Also will be fantastic to carry to meetings at work as it will integrate into exchange as well. So calendar, mail, iworks, and web browser on the go. I have done many demos to just one person on a laptop, and i rate if i had one of these it would be much easier.

My biggest gripe with netbooks are the clumsy touch pads, and carrying around a mouse is A LOT of admin. Also the ones that get 8 hours battery life need 6 cell batteries, which weigh a ton. I also think they have finally made a product that i can teach older people to read articles on and load bbc etc, without struggling. Touching and tapping on what you want is just so intuitive. Looks like a great product, and i can't wait to get one!! It will definitely replace my netbook, and is awesome for when i am too lazy to take my macbook along...

No bwana. As a Mac Pro user I was hoping for a Macbook in tablet format. This is sadly not it - it's a dumbed down macbook. That's nice and all, but a macbook or macbook pro in tablet format would have been the product to get. Instead we get a LARGE iPod Touch. Yes it will sell but it really is a gimmick. You can't run serious software unless Adobe or Apple release versions of their apps for the app store but than that will suck too since we'll have to rebuy them. As is, you can run Photoshop for Mac and all Mac Pro-Apps on a desktop and a notebook on the same license.
This was never going to be a Macbook in tablet form. The market for a device like that would have been truly a niche one. This is a device that new users will be able to use from day one - no need to go through the whole windows to osx switch. Just like the iPhone it is accessible to anyone.

Yes it's nice to browse the web and maybe it is nice to show off your video edits or photo edits - but those are very limited applications. Secondly u need the ecosystem - the Itunes/books/newspapers/apps/games universe. In SA where we only have the apps, and 3G internet is expensive - this will not be as USEFUL as in US/EU. FInally, it's EXPENSIVE. $829 for 64GB/3G version. It's also fragile and the screen is pretty low resolution and could have been bigger - why have such a big bezel.
The eco system is here and I doubt it will be any more locked down that the iPhone. Those with the need will learn the meagre skills to jailbreak it and those who dont need to wont. Its an easy process to get media onto the iPhone/iPod touch and dont see this being any different. Your pc can re-encode entire libraries of incompatible video formats in the background while you sleep.

How fragile is it? Have you broken one already? A wide bezel probably means less fingerprints on the image you're trying to view.

I don't see what is so wrong with being a geek anyhow? Anyone ashamed of loving technology shouldn't be browsing this forum.
Nothing wrong with us geeks but compared to the rest of the consumers we're definitely the niche segment and as a result this device isnt aimed directly at us.

Why would you think they were making a macbook pro in tablet format for $500?
And what would the point of that be?

Even blondes can use these things.
Nice video. :)

I'm guessing...

I'm busy watching a DivX video on my home PC and I want to quickly copy it onto my iTampon (sorry iPad), so I copy it onto a USB drive and then stick it into my noise because I can't stick into an iPad.

I'm busy reading my email that has a link in it and I want to follow the link, no well you see you can't just do that the iPad can only do one thing at a time. When you reading email nobody would want to surf the web at the same time, unheard of.

Ok, I've got a 100 GBs of content, photos, video, all self created, and I want to store it on my iPad, oh wait no can't. Can't even upgrade.

So I go online and find a book that I want to read, oh shucks it's not compatible with iBook, sorry for you.

So what do I do, I wait for HP or someone else to create something better... more usable and cheaper in SA, because you know that Apple/Core are going to rape us here.

As usual another Apple product for computer illiterate Idiots. Surprised most of the apple products don't come with a free dummy guide.
