iPad mini with retina user here.
The lockdown on the platform is really bad. Buying any music from the store is unsharable unless you jump quite a few hoops.
The OS is just plane boring, there is nothing to do to make it more customized to your preferences.
The keyboard IMHO the worst crap since software was designed, the slight discolouring of the shift key is the only indicator that CAPS is active, you have to tap it see which mode it is in by experimenting, don't understand the logic that went into designing it.
Auto correct doesn't have an afrikaans dictionary (if that matters to you).
iPhone apps get zoomed in, not a problem really, but they look all blurred for some reason.
Proprietary connector, I forgot my charger at work the other weekend, had to buy a new charger for R650 >: (
Think the biggest issue here is the price, I think its incredibility expensive for what you get. (You don't even get earpods or anything else for goodness sake)
My most use cases for the iPad, I play games on it : /
The store really has some nice games available on it, the other apps,...mhe, can be found on Play Store as well.
Personal conclusion.
If you have money and you are not worried about price, getting locked down, or no customization, get the iPad.
If you are looking for value, get the Nexus, its designed very well (surprisingly considering its way cheaper than the iPad)
Oh, last thing, the iPad has 1GB of ram, not sure who in their right mind thought that it would be adequate, because I can only browse on chrome for max 1 maybe 2 tabs. They are grayed out and have to reload when you switch them, safari doesn't show the gray, but you can see it needs to reload the page because the subsystem ran out of memory.
