I recently bought a normal MTN sim card for a iPad 2 3G model. Cutting the sim to micro sim size went according to plan (it pretty much fits perfectly), but the iPad doesn't "see" the sim. I now assume I did something wrong and took some pictures of the sim.

I'm really hoping someone can identify the issue here. Thanks!

You sure it's the right side up? (seems to be)

And the notch is at the right corner? (are you sure you cut it right? if the SIM is rotated by 180degrees, then it won't work)

It is possible that you've damaged the sim when cutting it.

I only got it right the 2nd time.

Some SIMs don't work out of the box. Did you try the SIM in a standard size device before cutting it?

I can see from the pic that you cut the chip... its fracked.

Why not just get a sim swap and ask for the special ipad ones.

Sorry for only coming back to this thread now - was a little busy the past couple of days.

Thanks for the advice. I had no idea cutting a sim was such a messy business - I expected to get it right the first time. I'll go do a sim swap tomorrow, but with a micro sim instead.

Thanks again.

Before doing a sim swap, I tried cutting the sim a little more, hoping to get it right. Unfortunately this didn't work (iPad still reporting no sim). But now I have a new issue: the smaller sim moved out of place, and now the tray won't open. I tried and tried and tried - no luck. A quick Google search confirms that the same thing has happened to other people before. One guy drilled a small hole through the tray door through which he was able to manipulate the sim into place. Needless to say, I'm not going to try anything like this.

Now my question: Will Apple's service center be able to help? I imagine that they will have to disassemble the iPad to get to the sim tray from the inside. Should I tell them about my self-cut micro sim and pay for the "repair"? Has anybody been in a similar situation?

This sucks so much. I wish I just bought the damn micro sim.
