Honest question regarding FaceID: how well does it work in low light situations or the dark?

Had an iPhone with faceID for a good couple years now, since iPhone XS.

You’ll have far more issues being off angle, or getting it to work when you’re not looking directly at it than you will with it not picking you up properly.
If you’re looking at it straight on, works in the dark, low light, doesn’t matter. I can’t recall any time it’s failed in that manner.

Obviously anecdotal, but I think it's pretty good actually.

Masks are the problem if having to type in your password every now and then is a bridge too far for you.

I would agree if it was an Android device, their Face Unlock kak is about as useful as a prestik padlock, but Apple do it really well

Mine actually is pretty decent on my Android though?
Maybe you need to clarify which you mean ?

Does the Apple version go straight in, or do you still need to slide ?
Was this a once off story below ?

I think it was pretty close - but Apples aren't really known for their cameras. They're above average for sure and worth a spot in the Top 10 - but generally an Android takes the top spot. It's been like this for years - but I'm hoping that this iPhone can maybe cracked a Top 5

I’ve used it when it’s pitch dark, not even moonlight and it works perfectly.

TrueDepth camera system

Each time you glance at your iPhone X (or newer), the TrueDepth camera system will detect your face with a flood illuminator, even in the dark.

An infrared camera will then take an image, and a dot projector will project out over 30,000 invisible infrared dots. This system uses the infrared image and the infrared dots, and pushes them through neural networks to create a mathematical model of your face.

Yeah Face Unlock on Huawei’s Mate range uses a similar tech to the iPhones. I think the Face Unlock he is talking about is the one where just a Front Camera only is used in most Androids.

The Mate 20 Pro, Mate 30 Pro and Mate 40 Pro have the 3D scan coming from the ToF camera. I think the Mate 20 Pro even has the IR camera as well as IR flood illuminator, while the 30 Pro and 40 Pro use ToF camera, much more secure than the usage of just a Front Camera/Selfie Cam.
