iPhone 15 Rumours & Release Date

My 15PM is stuck on 3G when roaming with Vodacom in Europe. My dad’s Samsung is rocking 4G no problem.

Can’t seem to find a setting that helps, even setting to 5G only does nothing.

iPhone experts am I missing something?

That’s weird, where are you? I’m in Finland and on the R99 1gb for 7 days and have 4G all the time. I’m assuming you have it set to 4G in the Voice & Data tab? It doesn’t even have 3G as an option so maybe you’re in the UK where the network is quite patchy?

Apple to boost old iPhone trade-in values for iPhone 15 series customers starting May 20

Wonder if that will apply here too? I'm considering replacing my 13 with a 15 Pro.

Dubai, Austria and Slovakia and 3G in them all. 5Gb for 7 days package.

I don’t see a voice and data tab, is that on the phone or in a Vodacom menu/app? The only tab I see is 4G, 5G Auto and 5G Only and none of the options change anything for me.

Yeah that’s the one.

Mobile data/vodacom/voice and data.

I knew you’d have it set but that is all o could think of. I couldn’t get it to work once and had forgotten to switch on Roaming so sometimes it’s the stupid wee things. But hey, I was in Saudi last week and also had 4G everywhere.

I can’t even think what to suggest. You get back home and Vodacom will look at you like you’re stupid and be of no help.

Yeah it’s an odd one. Luckily all my apps still work fine on 3G and the hotel has free wifi in the room so it’s not too big a deal.

I'm due for an upgrade at the end of the month, and looking to get either the 15 Pro or Pro Max. I'm having a hard time deciding between the two - on the one hand, bigger is better, right? Or not? But approximately R150 p/m more on contract for the Max, so wondering if it is worth the extra money or not.

I'm quite happy with the normal Pro size, and concerned that the Max might be too big. Different strokes for different folks, I guess - but would love to hear from fellow forumites about their personal experience, and recommendations on which one to choose.

Also, trading in at iStore is also available for contract upgrades, and as far as I can determine, one can either get the cash back or lower one's monthly contract tariff. Has anyone done the latter? Would love to hear how it worked out. Will have to visit an iStore in person anyways, very frustrating that one can't phone them directly.

Do you actually need a Pro model? If you want the bigger size, why not get a Plus? I have a PM model because I wanted a larger phone, but having come from the 12 PM and now on the 14 PM, I think I could be more than happy with a regular Plus as I don't use any of the Pro features. Just my 2 cents, but it's your cash, and consumerism gets us all, haha.

Yes and no

As you say, consumerism gets us all o_O

Obviously the Pro looks and feels nicer, so that part is truly a want and not a need, but yes looking at the Pro, I could benefit from the additional optical zoom of the camera system, and the ability to record video in ProRes. And having a LIDAR scanner helps in low light photography.

As the phone needs to last me a couple of years again, maybe it is time I finally get to experience ProMotion - unless that is overrated?

I thought long and hard about getting a 15 Plus (and still considering it), I could get the 256Gb Plus for less than a 15 Pro 128Gb on contract, so still a compelling option.

I am happy with 128Gb of storage, so if I go 15 Pro it will be the 128Gb model, but if I go for the Pro Max, I have to pay an extra R150 p/m, but at least then I also get 256Gb since there is no 128Gb Pro Max.

So yes, any input whether the bigger size is better or not, is appreciated!

You bring up some good points about the benefits of the Pro features. While they are nice to have, they don't sound like pressing needs, especially if you haven't felt limited by not having them before. ProMotion is something I've heard mixed reviews about – some people love the smoothness, while others don't notice a huge difference. It might be worth checking out in person if you can.

Space, like size, is subjective. Take a look at your current storage and use that as a yardstick.

Regarding screen size, the bigger screen is something I like. My partner, on the other hand, has only had the Pro models and not the Pro Max because she has smaller hands, so a bigger phone isn't comfortable for her.

Ultimately, it's your money and your choice. I'm just sharing my thoughts from having had Pro models. Hope this helps a bit more.

I had the 6.1 or smaller size for years (8, Xr, Xs, 11, 12, 14 Pro), my last bigger size phone was the 7 Plus and I have to say it only took a couple of days to get completely used to the 15 Pro Max and now I wonder how I managed with the smaller size for so long.

If you can afford the uplift in price it’s worth it.

Get the Pro Max for:
- 5x optical zoom
- bigger battery

Personally always preferred the bigger phones, battery life is always better and much like the 12 generation there is a slight difference between the Pro and Pro Max in the Camera department where the 15 PM gets longer range zoom.

Just an update on this weird issue. It got so bad that with international roaming in Hungary instead of 4G I was stuck on Edge and couldn’t even load Maps or Bolt. Could not get it to 4G regardless of how many times I restarted the phone or put airplane mode on and off.

Could call just fine though so I called Vodacom’s customer care and turns out it’s just some settings they had to change. After the call I got SMSes saying they activated “Network Synchronization” and “Network Services Option” and I get 4G everywhere now like I should. I think some contract sims might be configured differently as my dad on Prepaid didn’t have to do anything.

Anyway, glad that’s sorted. Also glad I got the Pro Max, that extra battery life has been very useful on this holiday. Also this camera is just incredible.

Great news with them saying “minimum 5 years” because Apple already have a fantastic track record of easily passing that, with models easily getting 6-7 years support with updates landing on all supported models on the same day, none of that regional & network rollout kaak.

Even after Apple devices “lose support” (basically OS update support) they still get Security Updates/Patches for many more years, my now 10 year old spare iPad, iPad Air 2 received iPad OS 15.8.2 in January, along with the likes of the 9 year old iPhone 6s getting iOS 15.8.2.
