i have updated my iphone 4 purchased from canada to 4.2.1 on itunes ... it was jailbroken before ... and now of course i get the "please insert carrier sim to activate" ... how can i unlock this phone? ... please someone help me ... i thought the new greenp0isen untethered jailbreak would unlock as well ... but no luck ... its just a jailbreak

unlocking requires you to access cydia on the phone ... but heck i cant get into the phone to start off with as i can only do emergency calls or have the "connect to itunes" logo on the startup ...

Good luck with that.....

There are currently no unlocks available for the iphone 4 with that firmware. I suggest keeping an eye on www.redmondpie.com as well as iclarified.com

Of course, since the iphone dev team are the guys doing all tha hacking you could keep an eye out on blog.iphone-devteam.org ( think that's correct).

Would be delighted if anybody could prove me wrong.

basically what happened was, by updating, it updated your baseband (the GSM/modem firmware as they call it). This is why your phone won't activate as it's only supposed to activate on an official carrier in an official country..

There is no unlock out for the baseband that you updated to..
There is no way to downgrade your baseband (that I know of)
You can downgrade your firmware if you had saved SHSH blobs in Cydia (the make my life easier button), but your baseband will remain the latest..

What you should have done if you wanted to upgrade and keep your old unlocked baseband, was use tinyumbrella or similar methods to maintain your unlocked baseband, while still upgrading firmware..

So now you will have to wait unfortunately.

As I don't own a locked iPhone, I don't keep a look out for new unlocks etc. There could be an unlock for the new baseband that I am unaware of, however, last time I checked this was the case..

Now, what you can try is, if the phone came with an official carrier SIM card in it, then try putting that in and getting past the activation screen - i;ve heard of people getting the phone to activate that way, but I haven't been successful myself.

Alternatively, you can downgrade to your previously jailbroken firmware using TinyUmbrella (and the built in TSS Server) after you saved your SHSH's using the software, and use the phone as an iPod Touch for the time being..

Yes, you're screwed. Unless it's a UK iPhone, those you can ask the service provider to unlock for you.

In this case he said it was purchased from Canada so pretty much out of luck it seems. Eish - not cool.
