I'm really not too concerned over the hardware of the devices(s) as, like I said, I own an SGS. I've played around on the SGS2 quite a bit as well (2 colleagues each have one, after my recommendation) and there really isn't anything to get me all moist. I rarely play games on the phone and IF I do, I doubt having a beast of a phone would make Angry Birds, Mini Squadron or Myth Defense any better... There isn't really any feature on any 'droid currently that gets me all giddy at the moment. I love my SGS to bits and would continue playing with it and flashing new firmware, until the day it decides to give up the ghost, which I don't foresee to happen during the next year or so.
I really wanted to get an iPhone just for the sake of having something different. My other option is a WP7 phone, but I really don't want to go down that lane right now (coming from WinMo 5/6 a couple of years ago). I have a contract expiring each year, so my next upgrade is due June next year. As far as I've read, iOS5 works fine on the iPhone 4, so as long as I can stay up to date with firmware on the phone for at least another year or 2, I'm happy. For me it's not about bragging rights in having the latest device, it's about just having a new toy to play with for another 9-10 months whilst I wait for my other contract's upgrade cycle to lapse.
So again I ask: is it worthwhile getting a 4 now and would the 5 really make such a huge difference in everyday use? I'm not a big photo fanatic, so the upgraded camera doesn't make me excited in the least.
WTH?! Did the day finally happen when the anti-Apple revolution leader would BUY AN IPHONE?!?!?!
Well, went ahead and picked one up this morning. Go twin SIM as well, so I'll be packing a my droid and iPhone from now on.
Still learning the ropes on this. It's immediately apparent that it's WAY more restrictive than Android, as Tim182 mentioned. It's different for the sake of being different, though. Won't see myself ever using it as my main device - Android just has so much more going for it. The crappy ZA-limited app store is a real letdown though - gonna read up on registering a US-based account now to get access to better stuff.
Thanks for everyone's input!
@Keeper - I don't think I've ever been THAT negative about Apple products. Owning both a droid and an iPhone now I can honestly confirm that the droid is a better overall device, offering lost of customization and a more open-ended architecture. The white iPhone is really pretty, though... I'm sure my wife is gonna go nuts about it tonight. She currently has a (white) HTC Desire and also dearly loves it. She'll hate the iPhone purely for its lack of live wallpapers.

Jailbreak your phone and then judge if it is restrictive

Right, got the US account and installed some free stuff (I'm cheap). The Android market does seem to have TONS more free stuff (both good and bad quality). Like Angry Birds, for instance, is totally free on the Android market. I saw the "lite" versions on the App Store, but nothing compares to having the full blown Angry Birds experience (original, Seasons and Rio) for mahala...

Jailbreak it, then everything is mahala![]()
