IPhone 5 cracked screen

Ouch, that sucks.

Interesting question here, and the first thing I thought of after reading the OP: given the choice, would you choose:
- your current situation?
- have the phone fall directly in the pool without the screen being cracked, but very likely suffering water damage?

Water Damage. Chuck it into a bag of rice. Then again, the iPhone does not have a removable battery which would complicate things.

Ouch ! That's not gonna be cheap.

The thing with dropping the phone, is it's not the height that ends up nailing it, it's the angle. Saw plenty of those drop tests on YouTube, and both the iPhone and Samsung took a hiding, but the iPhone 5 proved a little stronger. Lesson ... Buy a decent protective case for around R200 and save yourself the heartache.

But what if you don't like the extra bulk of a cover??

Now there is this

http://www.eforchina.com/view/168925/Original-Front-Screen-Outer-Glass-Lens-for-iPhone-5--Black-.htm

which costs $7.69

and there's this

http://www.eforchina.com/view/12516...--Digitizer-Assembly-for-iPhone-5--Black-.htm

Which costs $61

if my screen is cracked, but it still works perfectly, ie touch is perfect and image is perfect, would I need the LCD or just the outer glass?

If just the outer glass then these local guys are ripping everyone off.

It's a crap job to fix because on the iphone 5 every thing is connected to the front part of the phone. Not like on the 4.

Happened to my 5S 3 days ago....
I managed to buy the glaas cover only but foud out that the touch LCD is glued to the screen. on youtube there is a video showing you how to do it. It is a mission of note. even my local repair guys told me honestly they do not see chance to do it. They will however replace the whole touch LCD with glass but not glass only.

Guy at the shop told me the same thing, apparently changing the LCD, screen etc is also a bit of a mission.

I just claimed from insurance at the end

For those of you who think Samsung is tough, think again.

Its all to do with how the phone lands....
My Samsung Galaxy screen cracked in the corner, all that happened was it slid across the car seat and lightly connected the door handle. Bang, cracked! In any case that phone is now in Samsung heaven my son did a good job of ruining it with a glass of creme soda.

If anyone knows of any other specials running for iPhone 5 screens please let us know :) (and you can PM me direct if you don't mind the effort).

The cheapest I've found over the last few months is R1449 from Smartlab in Sandton - takes them 2 hours.

The easiest thing in the world to change a IP5 screen , I buy from EBay usually about R1k including shipping and taxes , and that's for the one that come complete with front camera, home button and mic. Less than 10 min to change, 6 screws in total .
