iPhone 5 launch date for SA announced

No, people who have an upgrade waiting will simply upgrade.

Anyone stupid enough to buy an iPhone 5 out-of-contract now when they got an iPhone 4S last year need to be shot.

iPhone 5 is a great update over the 4S. I've had mine since US launch and never regretted it. Apple isnt for poor people.

Well, kalahari has them on pre-order.

16GB is R11499.95
64GB is R13999.95

Those are import phones, not local stock.

I'm not saying one shouldn't upgrade to the iPhone 5.

What I am saying is that if you have a contract that you are still paying for another year at R350-R550 then you would be very very stupid to go take out another contract just to get an iPhone 5...or buy one cash just to have the latest and greatest.

It's an update...get it when you need to upgrade.

It does 95% of everything exactly the same as the 4S, is it then really worth paying 150% for 5% of features? I think not.

^this for sure. Like a serious WTF are people thinking.

What POS laptop can you buy for R4,5k? :wtf: i5? youre smoking something. My laptop cost way more than my new iPhone will. You know what? I use my phone more than my laptop. Way more.

What all y'all are actually saying is "I'm too dumb to appreciate something good so I make myself feel better by bashing it."

Hmm Asus Zenbook or iClone5? Same ballpark figure of exorbitant :P

Seriously, 14K for a phone. Do people enjoy getting reamed by one company for so much and for so little? And no, it's not about money, I could buy one cash right now if I really felt like it. That's because I don't spend money on rubbish. Yes, I has nice things. I will also concede the point that Apple's hardware really is almost unparalleled in the IT industry. Not too big a fan of their ethics or software (lol Apple maps) though.

Ag, if people want to get reamed, by all means, here have this vaseline :) You will need it :)

I'm not sure but comprehension in this place isn't really good.

14k is the grey import price as it hasn't officially launched here yet. The phone on prepaid will cost the same as the current 4S (maybe a little higher due to currency fluctuations)

It destroys the 4S in every aspect. Use one and you will probably agree with me. It is a fantastic device and worthy of the hype.

To be honest, the best iphone for it's time was the iPhone 4... rest has been "meh" because the competition has caught up/over taken it.

All I got from your comment is that you spent too much money on something you never use, and you calling us dumb... I like you, you make me laugh.

Also, for those who think the iPhones are expensive why not go look at the Vertu range from Nokia.

These phones are basic Nokias that go up to prices that makes that 275k Sony from the other day seem like pocket change.

"Destroys" is a very relative term.

My mom is still rocking my iPhone 3GS, just the screen that isn't too hot in the modern day but all in all probably the best device they ever made.

I'm also still quite happy with my iPad 2 1st-gen and haven't seen any good reason to upgrade.

You misguided sense of superiority in owning an overpriced phone that has nothing special is quite sad actually.

Apple hasn't made anything that was worthy of the hype you fanboys create in years. Yes, they do make great hardware but with every update you guys carry on like it is the second coming of Steve Jobs.

It's amusing how all the Android fans rush to write derogatory comments about every Apple announcement. If you don't like Apple, why do you even read the posts? Why do you constantly have to justify your decision to buy Samsung, HTC, Sony, Nokia, or whatever? Android has its problems, and so does Apple. Both have their advantages. The iPhone 5 is an incredible feat of engineering, and iOS is a great platform. If you can't acknowledge that you shouldn't hang around a tech forum.

The prices quoted are a joke - the contract pricing will be in-line with all other premium smartphones.

I did say that Apple makes great hardware. I just don't get why everybody who buys any Apple product think they are special because they paid inflated prices for a great piece of hardware crippled by outdated and mediocre software.

See, you must learn to read good. Since I have a US iPhone I paid $749 for the 32Gb out of contract. Add in US state tax and you'll find I paid around 7.5k for my 32Gb iPhone 5.

7.5k.

If you also read my previous posts, you will see I also laugh at the people who pay 14k for the grey imports locally.

Once again, 7.5k for my 32Gb iPhone 5. That's a fair price.
