iPhone 5 LTE support

people don't realise that LTE isn't about speed, it's about lowering prices because it is economical with the amount of bandwidth it uses. so really you are being ripped off when you're on lte because you are paying the same price for data that costs them a half the wireless spectrum to broadcast to you. and you're not going to get full capacity speed anyway because we live in the south pole for all intents and purposes and the bottleneck is at pietersburg not on your mobile

Not true. LTE is a vehicle to get new bandwith assigment from authorities. It is why there is a hype around it.
It uses more spectrum bandwith to get higher speed, no more spectrum density than HSPA+, at least in current revisions.

You are right to the other point. People spend more money on faster devices, but true benefit is for network provider, as these devices utilize network resources more efficient. It is also true for HSPA+ devices versus older 7.2Mbps modems. It always was like that...

telkom should just equip every telephone box with free wifi and we'd all be better off. cheapie adsl wifi model +-R300 oem? c'mon

LTE on iPhone 5?

Is anyone getting LTE on their iPhones?
I have an iPhone 5 and have not seen LTE even once...Is their some setting I need to change?

Thanks,

Cell C doesn't offer LTE to the general public.

Oh...well that's a fail.
Sorry for my ignorance but I'm new to the country - Which provider has LTE on their cellular network that IS available to the general public?

I live in Randburg, JHB in terms of coverage.

Thanks

Best would be Vodacom. They have LTE on Prepaid and Contract. MTN SA only has LTE available for contract customers.

Telkom also has LTE, but only with certain deals. Quite good prices and speed. But only Vodacom lets you use LTE on your iPhone on prepaid.

It's because a Apple has to certify your LTE network to greenlight them for use with iPhones, and because networks are rolling out LTE slowly.
