iPhone 5 review (MyBroadband)

I am an Android fan..more specifically an SE fan. But when I upgrade again (soonish) I might just rather by an iPhone through FNB since my bloody iPad won't break :p

It seems the only way for Apple to reach it's previous glory is to start releasing more hardware more often (aka iPhone Mini rumour) in order for them to keep up with the Android army (Sony, Samsung, HTC etc etc....) but then Apple have the hurdle of trying to keep their software up to date which is going to be a challenge because you've got Google doing their updates 1/2 times a year AND the manufacturers adding their changes (Touchwiz, Sense etc etc....) on top of that.

In the end, hardware and maybe design are going to become less relevant than the software that runs the device and Apple is starting the lag there.

How can you say that??? It's got a massive increase in screen size - its now 4" and with all that extra space everything is so much better.

One complaint we can level against the iPhone 5’s form is that it’s sides are quite sharp, and the back is entirely flat, which means that it doesn’t sit very comfortably in your hand. The other is that, while it is taller than its previous incarnation (123.8mm vs 115.2mm) it’s the same width (58.6mm), which makes it seem slightly awkward and imbalanced in use.

I totally agree with this having owned an iphone 5 myself and have to say its downright stupid to use a long phone like this,i prefer the iphone 4s any day wish this phone was just thinner and stretched proportionately instead of stretched in only one direction.

Have to say the mybb reviewer got this one right as when I had mine i promptly sold mine and looked for either an htc one x or s3...ended up getting an s3 as the one x is quite scarce.

Spot on Falcon786...
Suppose iPhone users will always stick to Apple.
More than happy with my S3, no doubt they both amazing devices.

It just boils down to personal preference at the end of the day..

+1 on all points

Android is the future...

Many peeves for me and the iPhone 5--
(1) Can't save documents (PDF in this case) on the phone for later reading (if arrived on email)
(2) No file browser (default)
(3) Can't send pictures directly from cameraroll to Whatsapp
(4) No native Gmail App (there is an app but can't be made the default to send and receive emails)
(5) No GTalk app (there a number of third party ones though--some you have to pay for)
(6) For everything else there is a paid service in the appstore

My conclusion: if you have been on android then this will be a culture shock; if naive, then it is the best phone/iOS device out there. Hardware is impeccable!

You have some Interesting points there Smiley.

Not looking good for the iPhone5, if you read the general response here..

So, anyone (ockie - nudge, nudge, wink, wink) know if there are good 4S deals coming up.

Daughter's 3G is about to be obsoleted (yeah, Whatsapp gonna stop working = phone useless for her) - my contract renewal comes up 1 Feb - so, choice is:

1. Get a iPhone 5, pass SO's 4S down to daughter,
2. Get daughter a new 4S

What to do, what to do.

PS: 3G will become serviceable ipod touch so not too much of a waste (unlike the 2 HTC's (TP2 and Desire Z) ) languishing in the depths of my cupboard.

The camera app now includes the ability to take panoramic photos – a very nice addition that’s implemented quite well. Except, it doesn’t support landscape use.

Wrong. Holding the phone upright (i.e portrait) takes a landscape panoramic photo. Holding the phone horizontal (i.e. landscape) takes a portrait panoramic photo.

I've been using iPhones since the second generation iPhone. Currently I'm sitting with the iPhone 4 and that is quite honestly the last really unique change for the iPhone. My GF recently upgraded and she decided to go with the Galaxy S3 and i cannot wait to change to it. Great phone. Sadly iPhone has just gone stale.

These are the solutions I use for the common iOS issues:

(1) Can't save documents (PDF in this case) on the phone for later reading (if arrived on email)
Save to Evernote works well.
(2) No file browser (default)
iOS's file structure is painful to navigate even with iFile, as it's based on Unix's equally arcane file system. It's just not made for file browsing.
(3) Can't send pictures directly from cameraroll to Whatsapp
Not sure about this I don't have an iPhone.
(4) No native Gmail App (there is an app but can't be made the default to send and receive emails)
Native mail app can be set up easily for Gmail. This one is baffling.
(5) No GTalk app (there a number of third party ones though--some you have to pay for)
That's true. I use IMO for chat.
