iPhone 5 stolen, not traceable, what now?

When paying R100 for insurance on a iPhone that costs 6K - it's really not hat expensive.
Bother my iPhone 4s and MacBook are insured through MiWay for a total of R190 p/m/

With its unremovable battery why don't apple make it so you can disable the power off button when the passcode is on? I wonder if there's a jailbreak to do that.\

Not that it'd help as the thief can just put it in DFU mode.

That's the problem, a smart thief will switch off the phone immediately, even though you've set up a pass code.

Find my iPhone app, will only help if the thief doesn't switch off the phone.

There is an app, if your phone is jailbroken, which prevents your phone being switched off without a PIN number.

I think it's called Cylay.

It was in my left hip pocket. The guy came up to me, unexpectedly, and put his foot next to mine, comparing shoes. He complimented my shoes and touched my leg. While he touched my leg, confusing my senses, he must have taken my phone out of my pocket without me feeling it. I have learned that I am not the first one experiencing this trick, apparently very popular on long street. I think I will go hunt thieves using an iPhone dummy and break their knees if they try stealing my stuff. I am done with being nice.

There was a BBC documentary about it, the guy stole the watch of the reporters arm in a demonstration and also stole his phone in the way you describe.

Pretty impressive app, comes with a $10/y per device subscription, but in perspective R100 for a year isn't that much. They can even stream video live from the phone front or rear camera (beta), setup a forward for all incoming text messages. You can even set authorization on a SIM that goes into the phone.

I assume the developers aren't English - because if their grammar is any indication I'd be a bit worried about using that.

Wouldn't be in the stock cydia repos if they weren't legit.

Install it. You get a month free trial.

I have a jailbreak tweak that does that ... and every time you try and switch the phone off it takes a picture and sends its location and picture to a predefined email addy...

Same thing happened to my friend last Wednesday outside Fiction.

Guy came up to him, asking about his shoes and somehow managed to take his Blackberry out of his pocket. Just another reason why I only take an old Nokia when in town after some guy tried to pickpocket me of my S2 back in June.

Those ****ing bastards just do as they please, I will still go hunt them down with a nice iphone dummy as bait. Oh, that's gonna be lovely.
