So i'm close to ordering my iphone 5 from the apple website in Switzerland through a friend that is visiting in a few weeks.

I however cant see anywhere what model it is they have there. The one designated for South Africa is the A1429 right? Does anybody know if the model sold through the Apple online store in Switzerland is this A1429 model?

The whole of Europe will be using the LTE bands that will work in South Africa.
That is why you get the LTE iPhone 5 which will work in the rest of the world and then a specific model for USA only.
Apple only manufactures 2 models and they fit into the above category so the phone you order in Switzerland will be the same model as the UK, which will be the same model as SA when it eventually comes out here.

I saw somewhere they actually make 3 models???

Also apparently Switzerlands LTE is band 7 which is not supported by the iphone yet.

Damn, abzo beat me to it. Though I was going to mention the little bird that popped out when the alarm goes off.

There are 3 models (A1428, A1429(cdma), A1429(gsm)), you need the A1429(gsm)

Apparently the A1429 cdma uses the same frequency as our networks (vodacom at least since that's where I got the info) but is not guaranteed to work here

Yeah but do you know where i can see which model is sold through the swiss apple online store? Or do you know if it is the A1429 gsm model?

AFAIK cdma is mainly used in the US so it should be the gsm model. Isn't there an email address where you can contact them to confirm?
