iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus announced

Oh boy. Competitors may in recent times have been able to reach the image quality levels of the iPhone, but the consistent results under any conditions, UI, and tap to focus speed has always gone to the iPhone. The iPhone 5s camera really blew me away, and by the review, the 6 is sure to leave nothing desired.

Keen on ultra slow mo video too

The only thing this graph tells me is that there are more idiots than I initially thought.

How many different phones runs iOS?
How many different phones runs Android?
Do you understand the difference between a concentrated and a distributed market?

Once you understand those figures, you'll understand why you can't read into those types of graphs to much.

And I'm not trying to say anything bad about Apple, but seriously just use half your brain power to realize that graph makes no fscking sense.

Maybe you shouldn't be so defensive...

The graph isn't an Apple vs Android argument, it's showing individual models sold in the initial launch periods of those individual models. It uses some individual high end Galaxy models as well as previous iPhone models as a comparison.

/facepalm

I know what the graph is showing. I'm saying the graph is misleading because of a saturated marked when it comes to samsung phones, because of android. If samsung was the only android phone maker, and only made the Galaxy S series of phones, your graph would've looked completely different.

Do you agree?

Well..... not really tbh. The Galaxy S is pretty much the flagship, especially sales-wise of Android phones. Level of demand on first few days of announcement for even the accumulated Android ranges would still probably not tick that much higher. It's just something Apple does really well - pumping up enormous demand as soon as their phones go on order.

Don't agree with you. Remember most android users just use the basics of a smartphone (phone, whatsapp, browsing) and that can be done by most if not all levels of phones. People aren't worried about paying top dollar for a S5, because a S4 mini is sufficient for them. With the iPhones there is not really an option to get a cheaper phone with the same besics as the top phone, and that's why their figures looks so much better than what any Android's phone would look like.

Just think about it, they release 1 phone every year (now there is 2 for the first time) all those wanting the new apple phone, are waiting for it to come out. With android that have multiple OEM's which bring out their phones at different times of year you can't honestly compare it.

You mentioning pumping out demand. Think about it this way. Open the water and block it with your hand, and nothing comes out..... pressure builds up and when you let it go... BOOOOM!!! Huge amounts of water...
With Android there is a constant flow of water with bigger spurts here and there when a OEM launches a flagship.

Sense, this makes. All I say is, when looking at a bar chart, think about what you are really looking at, and don't just see that the one is longer/taller than the other.

I'm not disagreeing at all. The chart is only showing sales < 1 week. And therefore, it's quite accurate, even if compared next to the entire gamut of Android phones. You just don't have that kind of pent up demand.

Ja and we all know how the iSheep expectations regarding a bigger screen went up with the 5S and now again the 6.

Agree, and that's all I'm saying. People look at graphs like that and go "BUUURRRNNNN SAMSUNG!!!" or whoever... i was just trying to explain why it looks like that... that's all. And since you now get it, I guess this conversation is over.... :)

Correct me if I'm mistaken but the S5 was released about a year after the S4 mini - so how is this different than Apple continuing to sell at least the most recent previous model (this year its the 5s and the 5c) as a cheaper option?

Such fun conversations with you

The Verge does the worst reviews. I'll wait for the AnandTech review.

Yeah, it's quite bad.

Yet there’s nothing truly ambitious here, no grand vision of the future or of a new way of living in the present. Apple doesn’t have better ideas about how to make use of more display real estate, or how to help users navigate a bigger device. It’s not on the precipice of offering a new kind of do-it-all computer, as it might be with the iPhone 6 Plus. The latest iPhones could have been a chance for Apple to really re-examine what smartphone hardware should be, but Apple just built a bigger iPhone.

...and still gives it a 9... :erm:

Then again hasn't The Verge generally always been biased towards Apple, though?

Of course there is a big difference. Price, the difference between the S4 mini and the S5 is a lot more than the 6 and the 5S. And then of course the target market. The person looking at buying the S4 mini is not the same person who will think about buying a 5S.

They usually are. They had 12 articles on the iPhone 6 on their main page on Monday still...

Oddly, Nilay seemingly had less gripes with the iPhone 6 Plus but awarded it a lower rating than the Moto X. But he is one of the level headed, not-iSheep-material writers.

Of course he is. It's just money that's the factor. The S5 Mini and the 5c are currently on the same pricing tier, and equivalently specced inside as well.
