iPhone prices in South Africa

Apple's latest generation of iPhone — the iPhone 16 — went on sale in South Africa on Friday, 20 September 2024. Prices start at R20,599 locally, depending on where you buy.

2024 was the first year in which iPhone pre-orders went live in South Africa on the same date as the US, and the new generation of iPhone launched locally at a lower price than the previous generation.
 
Mainly because ANC destroyed SA Economy and Dollar / Rand went crashing.

This is not the full picture.

The Samsung S24 Ultra is cheaper in SA than it is in the US.

Local players are not being transparent.

And 48 Months contracts are strong incentives.
 
If Apple doing the distribution for South Africa instead of a 3rd party, the price you would be looking at for the entry level device is R18999

Over the course of their 29-year period, the ANC government only managed to outpace the previous government by 8% in terms of the devaluation of the Rand to the Dollar. With the current forecast of the current Rand strengthening, there is a possibility to be on par.

The previous government caused money to devalue three times faster in the 29 years before the ANC came to power.
 
I'll wait for an affordable six year contract.

They also need to remove VAT from the equation as US prices do not include sales tax.
