iPhone price shock

This whole iPhone thing is actually ridiculous. You not only have to wait eons for it, but you then have to sell your kidney and port to Vodacom for it as they the only service provider with rights for it. Please people get over it. The phone is not even that great, it can’t do this, it can’t do that. I seriously don’t get why on god’s green earth everyone is so hyped about. Maybe the fact that no one can get one makes everyone want one? Ok iPhone fanboois bring it on, here I am :D :D :D ;)

OK, you asked for it...

Still loving the diamond?

Honestly what's the big deal? buy the phone you like but if you love iTunes then you should consider the iPhone(endless hours of fun) if you dislike iTunes then the iPhone probably is not for you.

In all fairness, It seems that I am the only one on this forum to ever complain about the Diamond...I think I just got rather unlucky. Everyone I speak to professes to how great it is, that is why I opted to get one agin rather than get something else ;)

True that - I have not had any of the problems you mentioned in your post - you just got stuck with a bad batch. Mine was thru Vodacom and got it at Nashua Mobile in Brooklyn.

I have to agree with morkhans here - the common denominator is Apple, and I have always percieved them as being rather useless.

I also have to agree with you and morkhans, APPLE is very strict in terms of their product being launched in a certain way. In this case, whilst the phones were in stock, the marketing display units only arrived on the 17th Sept08, and are being roled out to the stores for the shops to sell on Friday, 26th Sept. So Vodacom were not intentionally delaying anything - that wouldn't make business sense...

In terms of pricing, prepaid should be around R7500 for the 8gig and R1000 more for the 16gig. THAT IS based on the normal markup from cost. However, Vodacom may support the pricing to bring it down for the launch, we don't know. Contract pricing not available, probably only tomorrow.:o

Are there going to even be 16 gig units? I wonder if Apple will off load the 8 gigs here and bring out the 16 gigs later on. Does anyone know about this?

Both 8gig and 16gig units will be in the stores on friday:)

unconfirmed vodacom pricing

Damn it, I wish they would just give us pricing. What is the big thing about this?
:(:(
Thanks 3g4me

I spoke with a vodacom salesrep today - he said it should be out by Friday or Monday and retail for between R6000 and R8000...

That info is the same as what my local vodashop said this morning - R6000 for the 8gb and between R8 and 9k for the 16gb although the pre-paid option will not be available at launch - only contracts/upgrades.

8-9k? If this is to be true, I will immediately cancel my contract with Vodacom. I have been due for upgrade since March, was waiting for the Touch Pro but would have looked at the Iphone. So sick of being screwed by big business. I dont care who is at fault but someone has to wake up and realise they cannot keep screwing the public.
How does $350 (approx) translate to 8-9k? Am I missing something here?

To deeactivate the iPhone from AT&T costs an additional $300 I think
