iPhone pricing comparison

Woohoo ..first!!

But seriously, whichever way you slice it, and irrispective of the fact that it might be slightly cheaper elsewhere in the world.. the iPhone is still overpriced!! All you are paying for is the brand!

We are priced better for the 24 month contract but we don't earn what people earn in the States, UK, so it's way more affordable. I can't say anything about Aus or NZ though regarding a salary and the affordability.

it's great to see an comparison. Particulary with Aus and NZ as they also only provide 250MB of data as well.

It is now well known that Apple was heavily involved in setting pricing for the iPhone in South Africa, leaving Vodacom with little room to maneuver.
So Apple forced Vodacom to price their rates ridiculously high?

EDIT - I also notice the table doesnt mention the 5000 night and weekend minutes included in ATTs plan. Surely that has some value or to all the networks offer it?

Unlimited data, has some value as well

Unlimited data:eek: No wonder why these companies don’t want you to tether the phone.

Of course but that was included in the table. The 5000 inclusive weekend/evening minutes wasnt. :)

There are other networks that also offer the iphone in OZ - its not just vodafone.

Hehe it only appears to be first, but have a look at this:
Code:
Minutes	Text	Data	Total 24 month cost
O2 UK 8GB 600	500	Unlimited	13,781.16
Vodacom South Africa 8GB	120	100	250 MB 12,989.00
For R33/PM more, they get 380 more minutes plus infinite data :D

I am surprised, but it does seem that we are fairly competitively priced. The cap, although disappointing is the same as Australia's and New Zealand's. So it seems that the southern hemisphere is suffering from a lack of broadband capability. Vodacom is hamstrung in this regard by it's parent, Telkom, which has bills to pay - particularly its CEO's...

The number of text messages allowed in New Zealand is 6 times more than we get in SA. I would have liked to see an Australian figure, but all I see is a confusing "Aus $ 310" in that column. That is a bit disappointing, we are not getting as good a deal in this regard.

So it seems that we are roughly equivalent to our southern hemisphere counterparts. Which is good news in my opinion, the question that still remains unresolved in my mind is, is the iPhone worth it?

You cant really make comparisons from the contract pricing comparison chart. What is being compared, what against what?

There are so many deals for the iphone, different companies, and different ways to rip you off - Australia for example has 4 mobile co's selling the iphone on all sorts of deals and scams and suff.

I understand people want to see how SA pricing compares, but it could of been done a bit more comprehensive as this chart is a bit vaige(sp?)

Hi Boodles

I partly agree. There are so many deals - different packages and different add-ons - that a true comparison becomes difficult. Prepaid price is obviously a better option to look at. The problem with a more comprehensive comparison with contracts is that the information becomes irrelevant because there are too many 'non-matching' offers.

Actually I belive O2 has an unofficial "cap" of 200mb per month over 3g. I also believe that you cannot access Youtube over 3g. However you do get unlimited data over the huge number of wireless hotspots available around the country (concentrated in London)

Hmmm, I am correcting myself here, seems it is "umlimited" (FUP applies)
