Irdeto busts streaming pirate

DSTV will rather go into liquidation than do that. This has been going on for over a decade. They won't do it. They simply won't- it's against their principles.

The Suits don't care, they already leeched as many millions out of DSTV as they could, they even sold off all their shares, while the price was good.

Not sure what I would rather have, Canal+ buying DSTV, or them not buying it, and watching DSTV crash and burn.

Watching it crash and burn is a far more rewarding exercise. Karma comes to mind.

Here's the lesson:
Pirate away, nobody cares.

Sell your loot, and the robbed will come for you.

“Content piracy involves the unauthorised acquisition, use, sharing or selling of copyrighted content. Put simply, piracy is stealing,” MultiChoice said.

Monochoice you muppets, piracy is NOT stealing.....judges have reprimanded before......................IT IS copyright infringement !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Stealing requires depriving ownership..............you muppets.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Notice that the FPB and other "copyright orgs" were not even involved to my knowledge.

MonoChoice/IRDETO considers itself an authority on piracy/copyright infringement in this country and sees itself as the moral high horse on these matters.

Probably because the bloke was selling logon credentials, that he was stealing or generating, and not streaming anything. Just a maybe?

So he was selling DSTV login credentials, and streaming boxes, presumably with DSTV app, and login details already setup. But it appears he was not streaming or re-streaming any content.
I would also like to know the technical details of how he redistributed DSTV content? Why did you say he was not re-streaming the content? The first thing I thought was that he maybe have a stack of decoders with video capture devices streaming the content?

The story does remind me of when people used WUGs and Dream Box's to share keys from a single smart card.

The headline says streaming, the article says he was selling logon credentials, and streaming boxes.

Very scarce on detail ... , so ...

DStv owner nails streaming pirate

MultiChoice has confirmed that it conducted a successful raid in partnership with police detectives and arrested a suspect in Gauteng involved in acts of piracy.

Jurgen Johannes Potgieter is suspected of having sold login credentials and Internet streaming pirate devices, according to MultiChoice.
Not gonna stop us cancelling your useless content subscriptions Multichoice.

the moment we have alternative to sports its over for you and your theft :)

That made me think he was selling logon details to his own streaming service and the streaming boxes had some sort of preloaded app on it to access his service?

I'm sure someone on this forum had one of these boxes and can tell us how it works? :P

Think that is streching it a bit. If he was selling a service, they would have said so, surely.

They nailed a bloke years ago, for selling pre-loaded, plug and play boxes with Kodi installed. So why they mentioned boxes, maybe. Tho they again don't say - lacking detail. Takealot and every local retailer sell boxes. So the question goes begging, where these boxes pre-loaded or not.

To me, they are trying to dress up, a theft/fraud case as a piracy case.

More news worthy that way.

The lack of details, technical ones is likely due there being a technical flaw or security fail and they cannot address it. IRDETO is known for being the bluntest tools in the shed when it comes to security, so they will do this the American way, keep it a secret so that we cannot know and exploit it.

That's one of their tactics yes.

Either way, the story is rather "fishy" smelling from here.
I sometimes mention this but yes, Multichoice is a nasty company. Especially their handling of things pre-1994 against people who didn't even pirate their precious garbage but instead chose to study their system for academic reasons.

He was probably selling Android Boxes with a proprietary/personalized iptv app on, and then selling the IPTV streaming part with a Xtream codes login monthly.
