Is 200/200 fibre overkill?

Good day all,

Received a mail from AH to upgrade to 200/200 as promo for a year (currently on 100/50).

In our household we have 2 laptops, 3 phones ans 2 android smart tv's.

When son and daughter comes to visit it is his pc and phone and her phone.

Like stated is the upgrade overkill as we watch prime, youtube and kodi on smart tv's.

Barely download anything big these days.

Your input would be appreciated....

Probably.. I am on 100/100 and both wife and I work from home and with multiple visitors here streaming and us both on teams meetings etc, we don't max out our line..

If you add downloads into the mix, that's a different story, though you can always throttle that accordingly..
 
I've got a 500/250 Openserve fibre line from Afrihost and it's awesome. But we do have 2 adults and 2 semi-adult teenagers in the house and about 40 devices on our network (including all the IOT stuff).
 
Yes and no. Once you've got it, it's a yes
 
Family of 4 here, kids game and watch stuff. We just watch the odd bit of Netflix. Just downgraded from 100/100 to 50/50 a month ago and no complaints since.
 
100/100 should be enough for all your streaming needs. If you have big downloads then maybe the upgrade is worth it.

It also depends on how much you can afford. Higher speeds are always nice and if you can afford a 1000/1000 line, why the hell not. But there's no reason why a 20/20 line can't be sufficient if money is tight.

Exactly. I'm eyeing the 10/10Gbps package. Only problem is I need to move to a Purple Forest estate.

Affordability is not the problem. We have the following online at the same time every night.

5 x Tv's/screens streaming Netflix/YouTube
4 x PC's playing online games and using Discord
2 x tablets on TikTok or YouTube

We haven't had any issues with 100/100 Afrihost.

100/100 is a lot for most households..

Our problem is that Vuma has oversold these 1gig packages and now our exchange is overloaded - it feels like that was a ADSL problem.

So I think the answer is that they shouldn't be selling these packages just yet.
 
I have 500/250 on openserve and there is one distinct advantage with having the "Top" plan that is available and that is the reliability. In our estate there is daily complaints about internet outages / slow speeds etc at all times of the day. Mine however has never had an outage and I'm always getting 300 - 500 on speed tests, never drops. Is the speed overkill? Maybe but there is definitely less contention on the higher speed packages than the the lower ones
