Is anyone else mining? I'm a noob.

That shouldn't factor into the mining calculation though, since you can buy crypto with cash to get the same gains with speculation.

On the one hand one can mine more coins with the same investment in hardware over a year than just buying it outright, on the other the price may rise more in that time when you still have little coins.

Hard question to answer - thats why I'm doing bit of both

If i currently mine with one card gtx 1080 and i stick a 1070 with it, do i have to install the drivers for the 1070 as well? on windows

To me, if you are investing with the assumption that the price will increase, then you should just invest in coin. 12 months is too long of a time to rely on GPU's, especially lower end cards.

How much data does this use when running a full 4-6 GPU rig running 24/7 .... at say ±100MH/s ??

I can't give you a number for your scenario, but with my R9 290 on daggerhash, I got something like 50-80b/s. So negligible.

Has anyone using nVidia cards tried running them on p0 yet? Apparently there's a slight gain.

Ok, decided to try it tonight. Like the OP , I'm a total noob. Bought my RX480 a while back and never thought of putting it into mining :p

Getting 24.7 MH/s is it any good ? (remember this is just a single card)

Its not bad at all - about the same as you get with a 1070 that now goes for R8k+

And since you already bought the card its essentially free money. I would let it mine when the machine is idle and come back in 5 years for a hopefully very nice surprise.

PS: Mining ethereum should make roughly $100 p/m if running 24/7 at current price & difficulty.

1070's are getting 30 minimum... Although iirc the RX480 can get to 29 with a modded bios (which on a primary/gaming PC you probably don't want to do)

Yip, I now do just over 29mhs with a very slight overclock. I've managed to push it to 33, but no way in hell am I running it like that...ever...ever...

I always say, if you want to drive a fast car, buy a fast car to begin with...

Thanks for the feedback. But I guess my electricity bill will be more than that I mine :(

I bought one of the first RX 480 8gig , when wootware sold them. Nice card for gaming.

Random question: multiple GPU's can be used, and they don't even have to be the same brand, model or even chip, but would one take the MH/s of one card and just add it to the MH/s of the next and so forth to get a total output for all the cards, or are there diminishing returns of some kind?

Yep. Plus plus plus.

Is using NiceHash actually a good idea? I've been using it for the last 3 days and pulled in 20USD but I feel like I could make more doing it myself? I'm really a total noob at this. Can someone give me some direction? I would greatly appreciate it :)

Important to realize what Nicehash Miner is and does, vs. mining coin yourself.

At no time do you hold any currentcy for yourself using NHM. All you do is sell your hashing power, that's it. You get paid for that, and nothing else.

Mining coin is arguably more flexible in terms of reward, and if your goal is to get and hold a specific coin based on speculation of what the future value will be, then by no means is Nicehash Miner going to give that to you.

Personally, I like NHM, and use it most of the time. I would generally mine enough to make my quota for pay out, and if there is any other coin I'm interested in, I will mine this once I know I'm getting paid by NHM. For example, I'm currently throwing all my hashing power to mine Sia coin, seeing as I've made enough with NHM to get my "tip" with the next pay out schedule.

Short of trading any sort of coin on an exchange, using NHM is the easiest way to get a piece of the pie (for now).
