Is Apple worse for open source software than Microsoft?

mmmm so you are saying microsoft can back to screwing people as well since there is competition now???

Are you aware of the reasons Microsoft came under scrutiny in the first place? And, by the way, Microsoft still has a monopoly in the desktop market.

Is Apple worse for open source software than Microsoft?

pointless thread

if you want open source, go linux. nobody is forcing anyone to use Apple Only. The Fact that they are there does not make the situation worse.

you may as well ask "Is Opel worse for Kit-car Building than VW?

Ok i just read the article and had a good laugh, firstly developers are not locked in they have a choice of objective c, c, c++. Objective-c development is like as easy as VB. i would be pretty pissed off with people if they started reverse engineering my software as-well, especially since i am trying to make money from it. So stating it doesn't support open source is pretty obvious, its not a fking open source platform. You are given a tool set to do what you need to do (API,SDK)

argg i could go on forever, the author of this article clearly doesnt know wtf he is talking about.

I'm sorry, but this has to be noted, if you are buying a mac you are nuts! Unless you get it from overseas, then it is all right as their hardaware is quite nice. But in South africa it is practically 2-3x the price. Yes, Apple is worse than MS, but then again, MS has had to play nice for 10 years.

Apple IS going to get sued for anti-competitive practices at some point, it now is a question of when. You can't have a large platform like the app store and limit it like they do, at their size that WILL cause issues at some point. The next bit would be the mandatory Mac purchase to code an app.

Sigh, and last of all, does it really matter what we say, think or do in comparison to these behemoths?

For what? To port crappy advertising and games?

Yes, so now advertising will be html5... meaning no more "block flash" - no more blocking. But you'd be surprised where flash is used. Google docs [to allow for multiselect uploads], facebook [picture uploads], youtube used it for a very long time too.. sure, youtube is html5 compliant now but what about the other streaming video sites? Lots of money.

Do you even know what you are talking about, It is apples product the iphone and they are supplying the appstore for their device, how is that being anti-competitive. While i agree with the cost of apple products in the country, we have CORE to thank for that. Please back up your claims how apple is worse than MS?

Not unless they become a monopoly. They are currently far from that.

If they want to reach Apple devices they will need to get with the times. Apple is not stopping these services from targeting people who use Apple devices, so if they think it will be profitable it will get done.

Cant argue with that, hopefully flash doesn't die out too quickly, to give the smaller guys some times to catchup [and not go out of business] and give the Flash/Flex developers to rehash their skill sets to HTML5

Please tell me where I haven't been and I will gladly correct myself.

Sure, start by not telling me how I word/think/say something? (when in reality I was totally not shrill but completely having a laugh).

You can word it however you want but unfortunately for you that doesn't prevent others from describing it how they see it.

I don't have an iPhone and do not develop mobile applications.
Therefor I don't think its fair to contribute and waste all my co-forumites time and energy.

Somehow myBB has transformed into a lets-share-and-dicuss-something-ive-heard-about-once forum.

Thanks, then dont worry about when you are called dishonest :)

Please don't act like a child, it is unbecoming of a person with a mind. If you equate calling your post shrill with calling me dishonest then there really is no hope for getting any sense out of you.

Please just grow up. As long as you keep doing this so can I icyrus. You started the personal references so Im just mirroring you.

i don't disagree with the premise of the article, but it's hardly surprising that apple doesn't allow people to hack their SDKs.
