So the company I work for is once again suffering the end of the month IS blues.

Seriously people at IS.. whatever you are doing feels dishonest and miff.

My users cant access google.co.za (but they can ping it, and access the .com), they cant access half the international sites out there.

I have tried switching between my capped IS adsl account, and my other line with is an uncapped IS line. Both of them have the same siff results.

At the end of the day, I had to switch to a 64k SAIX diginet line for browsing, simply because its faster .. and ALL the pages load when compared to our IS accounts.

I dont know whats broken in IS.. but its no small thing. We are starting to migrate all our clients and ourselves away from their dirty bandwidth as we need reliability for our work.

Here is your solution for the month end blues:

Are they using uncapped, because i am using IS bandwidth and its flying.

Maybe they screw with uncapped accounts to keep the bandwidth down.

Wow... glad to see we're not the only ones getting terrible service!

I've already requested that the service be cancelled, so we've got 3 months to find an alternative.

Just out of interrest, are you using business uncapped or express uncapped?

We've also had the billion router they supply replaced 3 times, the thing locks up quite often, in summer it's even worse for some reason, happening 3/4 times a day, where a normal router and SAIX account works without problems on the same line.

IS Woes

We are experiencing similar problems especially with google. They better sort this out!

Well.. everything works fine for me on SAIX bw. Im only having problems with IS. And its an IS uncapped business account.

When ever I'm having a problem on SAIX, I just switch over to cache.saix.net:8080 and it fixes the problem.

IS was over-subscribed at least 2 years ago and they have kept signing up new clients since, despite not being able to adequately serve their existing clients.

IS are worse than telkom in every way.

What annoys me is how their staff handle calls. I send in a complaint on the Monday, and I will get someone phoning me on the Friday asking if everything is fine... which often by then it is.. or at least the problems are manifesting in a different way.

This weeks problem:

Log call in the morning.
Mysteriously fixed within 30 mins - probably a borked router that some techie replaced.
60 mins later (and 90 mins after call was logged), get a call from some techie saying they will look into it. I say nothing about it being fixed - afterall, it may just break again if no one knows what is happening....
3 HOURS later, not an update - person is probably STILL investigating.

BOFH FTW

IS Fiber is fine.... it's IS Satellite which is poo, not like saix is not sometimes up the creek too round end and beginning of the month.

Dude this thing works like a bomb! I don't know when last I surfed this fast! Thanks! What is IS's proxy? cache.is.co.za 8080 ???

You can try some of these for IS (on ports 80, 3128 or 8080 - some combinations work others don't ;)):
Code:
168.209.97.34 = nc1-ctn-e0-1.cache.isnet.net
168.209.97.42 = nc2-ctn-e3a-1.cache.isnet.net

168.209.98.13 = nc1-rba-e0a-1.cache.isnet.net
168.209.98.20 = dante1-rba.cache.isnet.net
168.209.98.21 = dante2-rba.cache.isnet.net
168.209.98.30 = sw1-cache.nmszone.is.co.za
168.209.98.33 = cc1-rba-1.cache.isnet.net
168.209.98.42 = nc7-rba-e0-1.cache.isnet.net
168.209.98.43 = nc5-rba-e0b-1.cache.isnet.net
168.209.98.44 = nc6-rba-1.cache.isnet.net=nc6-rba-e0-1.cache.isnet.net
168.209.98.46 = nc2-rba-e0a-1.cache.isnet.net

196.36.198.89 = nc1-hot-rba-1.cache.isnet.net
196.36.198.90 = nc2-hot-rba-1.cache.isnet.net
196.36.198.91 = nc3-hot-rba-1.cache.isnet.net

196.35.158.179 nc6-rba-e0-2.cache.isnet.net
196.35.158.180 nc7-rba-e0-2.cache.isnet.net
196.35.158.181 nc5-rba-e0a-2.cache.isnet.net

Most of these worked beginning of the year (when I used IS) but I haven't been able to test them for the last 7 months so who knows :D

Awesome dude! Thanks!

IS bandwidth horrible again tonight :(

Line peaks at about 250kb/s (50% of the line speed) and most local websites have to be refreshed 2/3 times to get them open. International sites even worse.

Thanks IS, for providing us with a sub-par product at a premium price.

mmm, interesting...let me find a suitable something to download and i'll remote in and test the IS at work :) ...will report in a bit

Reporting back:

Can confirm that 250kB/s. I just did a SSH to our os x server and using 'wget' to download a 120MB file from Europe and it's hovering around 235kB/s downstream speed. *sigh*, IS IS IS....wtf!!!

Average speed according to wget:
22:08:29 (219.39 KB/s) - `TATW227_709_archive.mp3' saved
