Pooky showed no interest in the K850i but for all the fanboys here... K850i vs N95 5mp camera shoot out...

http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_k850_vs_nokia_n95-review-162.php

Conclusion :

"In this heavy-weight championship series the Sony Ericsson K850 managed to collect a total of 31 points, while the Nokia N95 managed to beat it by a slight margin with a total of 34 points."

And bear in mind the much critisized (by Athlon) firmware upgrades on the Nokia have significantly improved the N95 shot-to-shot time which was an area the N95 lost points in this head to head.

pcpig, how long can you run your laptop on battery power only? As I tried to argue with Athlon earlier, the N95 is a multimedia device. If you are going to use all the apps you are going to use battery power. One review I read summed it up well...

http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/reviews/item/Nokia_N95-part_5_Battery_life.php

"Verdict

Think back a few years (around 2000) to when mobile phones were phones and sending a text message was the height of high tech. Think back also to when the first handheld GPS receivers appeared. I had one and it ate four alkaline AA cells in four hours straight. Think back to the first digital cameras - these were almost as hungry on battery power. Ditto the average iPod, which will drain a full charge in a dozen hours of use.

Now consider that the N95 'phone' is handling Internet, Bluetooth and voice communications, monitoring your Calendar and Clock, providing GPS and stills/video camera functions when needed, and so on. And, with the 'typical' (actually fairly intensive) day outlined above, it managed to get through with enough power left to make a few last calls if needed.

So, your 'old' phone could go several days without a recharge? Well, guess what? With all the things it does, the N95 won't. Get over it."

I personally charge my phone every night and I have always done this, so it is no skin off my teeth. If I am doing a long journey and using GPS then I would use a car charger, as you would do with a stand alone GPS.

As they argue in the above article, this is no longer a device to make calls and send sms's only!

Umm Athlon the word again means "once more"... you yourself quote two instances where you recommend the K850i and then add to that the final time and you will see where I get my "again" from!

"If you actually have a look at what Pooky's requirements are, you'll realise that the K850i is actually quite a suitable phone. The N95 is certainly not small."
By the time you made the following post I had essentially only made mention of the K850i once considering that the two posts which I had made were made a mere 3 minutes apart:
Ha ha ha ha now Athlon goes and recommends the K850i again when clearly Pooky has not mentioned the desire for this phone, and he then claims he never turned this into a K850i vs N95 thing!! ha ha ha ha ha!! You do have to wonder...

Pooky you can also get the Nokia 1200 for only R369 on pay as you go.... about as useful as Athlons suggestion!

"Sorry Pooky. This is just ridiculous." Stop apologising and just shut up!
In other your "again" makes absolutely no sense. Then, the bit where you say "he then claims he never turned this into a K850i vs N95 thing" is a load of BS. I said this wasn't a K810i vs N95 thing. You're clearly confused between the K850i and the K810i.

Well let's just prove your bias here once and for all....

SE K850
Dimensions 102 x 48 x 17 mm
Weight 118 g

Nokia N95
Dimensions 99 x 53 x 21 mm
Weight 120 g

Now shut up!
I am aware of the dimensions of the phones. 4mm may not sound like a lot, but it is - the N95 is 23.5% thicker than the K850i....and for what? A bunch of features which Pooky him/herself said he/she doesn't need. You clearly don't have Pooky's best interests in mind here.....only your poor N95...

OK I've had enough of you, Athlon!

Pooky if you would like some feedback on my experience with the N95, please feel free to ask me. I have used one extensively. You are then free to use the information I give you as you please....

@LancelotSA i think you're missing the point here.i spent a decent R3000 on my nokia n73 .One would think that spending R7000 on a n95 would improve all features of the n73 while adding additional features like gps,rds enabled radio etc.I'm crying cos the battery capacity has dropped .

Pcgig... it does have GPS.... and if you talking about voice enabled, you can get that too. And besides no one pays cash for their phones nowadays, and if you look around you can get it fairly cheap (or free) on contract, especially now that the 8Gb is out.

I am not sure of all the features on the N73 so can't comment on all the improvements.

Pooky specifically asked about the N95. Is it worth it, well that will always be subjective won't it? I was personally saying I thought it is brilliant (and can give reasons for this) but as stated I did not have to fork out big bucks.

Yeah cash prices suck! If you work out what you'll end up paying on a contract over two years it works out to less than the initial outlay, and then factor in the interest earned on the money not spent up front, or decreasing value of the monthly amount paid due to inflation, and it makes no sense to pay cash upfront! You get no benefit out of it. This is before even throwing in the free minutes etc you get with a contract as an added bonus.

Cash is definately not the way to go. Can you not get someone to take the contract on your behalf, father etc?

HTC Touch is a sales gimmick and it is rather clear that underneath the veneer that is Windows Mobile 6.0 , the the OS and apps are simply not geared for that kind of "touch" interface.

It is a kludge compared to the iPhone.

N95 ... it is a phone ... a big bulky N series ... dunno where Nokia gets the phrase "multimedia computer" to describe it from.
