Is MTN over-billing?

More than 1GB an Hour ?

No way mate, not even I can do that :D

Believe me, it happened. And, they were on an out of bundle tarif.

Must be an error on the MTN billing system.

Time to get a Vodacom SIM then. :D :D

Or get your MTN SIM upgraded to 3.6! ;)

I can klap more than a Gig per hour easily on my 272. (or 220, for that matter). Best I've done is just over 2GB in one hour. Download obviously. 1GB upload takes about 2 hours (272 only, though).

Too easy.

How about 3.20GB download in one hour and 1.75GB upload in one hour on a 3.6Mbps and 7.2Mbps capable 3G/HSDPA modem on Vodacom. Not the 272 or 220 though.;)

You'll need to PM me more details! Me also want your modem ;) Actually your backhaul! That's pretty much near 100% of the radio link.

The throughputs I quoted are what I got downloading files off-net (i.e from outside the Vodacom network), @ ~2.5Mb/s and 5.2Mb/s respectively. Upload was just over 1Mb/s averaged over the period.

Leaves my WiMax eating dust....;)

This happened to me a few months back. I only noticed it because it was an amount of like 1GB [= R1200+ overcharge] over. Even during the event MTN was hopeless, i literally had to wait for the entire billing cycle to complete before they could give me an answer.

I have to watch my account like a hawk for these things. I'm still very dissappointed with MTN's billing system as a whole. It's horrible. They have NO mechanism to tell me i'm running out of bundle [on contract] , NO mechanism to tell me i'm running up a massive bill. You just get a surprise invoice and go WTF and then they charge you to get the detailed bill! Bastards

All I do is play wow and download series when I log off wow at night and go to bed. I need to move closer to the tower :D

Don't you get cheaper deals by working for MTN? Like employee discount.

I remember about 12 years ago - I did some work for Vodacom and was given a 'special' Vodacom simcard/number that was only about a 1/3 of the normal cost, I think it was some community type thing.

:D

I can't comment :D

LOL... I wouldn't expect less. I'd be shocked if a company didn't offer its employee's benefits on their own products.

Let me put it this way, would I be working here, fixing "your" bill if there was none :D

Yea we have benefits. Some perks are just worth all the trouble at work ;)

Trouble? What trouble. I finally got paid back... four unpaid MTN bill refunds from my company - Totalling almost R3000.00... so thanks :)

MTN is always very concerned about potential billing issues. We were contacted by mybroadband but were not in a position to comment as we did not have the subscribers' details. We constantly run data integrity checks on our bills and it is not in our interests to overcharge any customer for any service. If there is a data billing problem we will investigate and ensure that it is corrected asap.

If the specific customer affected by this incident can send me his account details then we will look into this asap and ensure that the bill is rectified.

Problem is you usually have to argue with the clueless 808 call center, who apparently don't have the ability to transfer you higher up the food chain. It makes sorting bill issues a bit difficult. i.e., its not easy to get hold of the right people at MTN.

Funny how no-one told MTN about the prepaid bug that allowed prepaid users to get data for free last year!

Funny how "mistakes" *cough* virtually always seem to be on the side of over- and not underbilling.
