IS News Server down?

Not a NewsBin problem...

I've read most of this thread and the issues seem to be due to changes to the news server. Has anyone tried running NewsBin with 1 connection to see if the problems go away? It sounds to me like the server is not recognizing dropped connections so when NewsBin goes to re-connect the server thinks you are over the connection limit and issues an error.

The latest beta release of NewsBin (5.31) has some changes that should work better with news servers that are slow to acknowledge closed connections. It can be downloaded by NewsBin registered users here:

http://www.newsbin.com/index.php?mode=files&task=viewfile&file=16&tab=rl

After final release, anyone can download and try it.

Of course all your problems will be gone if you sign up for a premium news service like the ones we recommend at http://www.usenettools.net/news.htm

Had a problem with grabit where it didnt decode my files, not sure if u guys were checking ur caches to see if the files were downloaded and maybe just not decoded. I used yENC32 to decode my cache and voila i had my files. :)

Update the newserver in full, i had the same problem but when i did that it started recognising the downloaded files

"There is a bug in all 1.5 and 1.6 versions of GrabIt that can cause downloaded files to get stuck in the cache folder. The solution is to update the grouplist:

- Start GrabIt
- Click on the server you are trying to download from in the subscribed groups panel on the left
- Click on the 'Refresh grouplist' button in the top icon toolbar

Now try to download again and see if it works!

Note: GrabIt 1.6.0 and 1.6.1 had another bug that shows the same symptoms. Please upgrade to GrabIt 1.6.2 or higher to solve this problem."

Edit: Zubs beat me to it.

Thanks Newsbin

Just want to point out that NBDexter is from Newsbin.
It is great to see that they are taking an interest in our issue.
Makes me proud to be a paid up Newsbin Pro user.

Would this be causing the error in newsbin that says:
09/25/2006 22:32:53 SERVER=IS, MSG=SendCommand - failed response: 499 Try again later - remote server down?

We wish we could sign up for international news servers, unfortunately the cost of international bandwidth is WAY to high for even the "rich" users. On average most ADSL users in South Africa only have 3gigs of international bandwidth a month(and our local browsing counts towards that).

Really happy to see our IS news server problems have been picked up by newsbin, i think it is the BEST usenet downloading client out there. Unfortunately at the current moment i have had to find other alternatives as newsbin is not downloading anything(i do blame it on our server however).

i tired using grabit like some peeps suggested but still couldn't download anything!

I still have 5Gb left
How will i every use it up by end of the month !

p.s. In july i did 30Gb in 13 days

Nothing wrong with server by me. Getting a cool 70kb/s. :)

Downloaded 2.2gb over night.

For how long though ?

I also got about 70 K/s yesterday by changing my IP address, but then it died again after about an hour. How long can you download at 70 K/s ....

Also how about a test. Someone who is getting good speeds give your ISP account details to someone else who is not and see if they suddenly have any luck.

Would be one way to rule out possible software issues ;)

well my friend is lending me his 2/28gig IS(he has 100mb international left). Going to see how much i can get in the 24hours from international paid usenet server :) ---> 4mbit

Ziglet - Good luck getting 4mb speeds on IS international.
Dualmeister - Left my download on overnight and by looking at stats for overnight speed it seems it was between 50-70. This morning it was running solid 70 for quite a while.
