Their total lack of response clearly indicates what they think of their customers.

lol, well if you guys can figure out how to get a static ip going then you can have this one :p

PS. are you guys defining your own dns servers? maybe this could solve something, not sure just a shot in the dark I guess. Maybe we can figure out a way to get past the problem. anymore suggestions welcome!

Chucked those DNS settings in and VOILA!
Where did you get those - or did you just make it up? I'm not very familiar with how DNS affects anything

*edit* Worked for 5 seconds - dead again :)
 
LOL!!! So IS are supposedly bringing out "new services"

IS said that they welcome Telkom’s upgrade of DSL1024 subscribers to DSL4096, and that they are carefully monitoring this upgrade with the expectation of launching new ADSL offerings.

IS is anticipating launching these new pilot services late September, which will make use of the new higher access rates.

I wonder whether this coincides with the completion of the news server upgrade? Maybe more connections for the 4mbit'ers? A paid news server?
 
I sure do hope the news servers are IS's number 1 priority. Will probly get 4 IS accounts if they get the servers right.
 
OK i'm new to this and dl grabit i added the two is servers and both show cannot connect. Is there something i must do? I've tried reading up on all this but can't find an answer. When it connect, what step would i then follow? WIll there be like a list of everything that is available and i just select and go?
 
What upsets me somewhat is that its the ISP's who lose out overall, if IS gives bad service, I dont only stop using IS I also stop using the ISP who provides me excellent service ...
Openweb has really been helpful, but they are stuck in the middle, unable to provide a service due to their supplier and unable to help the client for the same reason ...

We really do need more Communications freedom in SA.

Pearljam your problems could be directly linked to the hassles we are all experiencing ( except a few lucky few ") ...
Adding a server in grabit , make sure you entered the server name eg news.is.co.za in hostname and thats all you should have to do ...

* You have already added news.is.co.za and news.isdsl.net as your servers (these may in fact be the same sever with diff't aliases)?

* Right-click, say, news.is.co.za. Click on `Refresh grouplist'. The list of available groups will be downloaded.

* Click on news.is.co.za. Click on the tab `All groups'. The list of all available groups appears.

* Double clicking on any of the groups will subscribe you to the group (or control clicking any number of groups +, either, a right click + menu choice subscibe groups, or <control s> will get you subscribed to the selected groups).

* Clicking on the server news.is.co.za will show the now subscribed groups.

* Right-click on any of the subscribed groups. Choose: `Full update'. *WAIT*
The headers for that group will be downloaded. Could take a long time for groups with a lot of traffic [i.e the groups you want to browse ;) ]

* Click on the now-updated group. Click on the `Articles' tab. Available items will be displayed.

* Play!

There are, as you would gather from the title of this thread, sometimes problems with the IS servers. Be patient. They seem to be be decreasing (last week has been kind to, at least, me).
 
And that is why it's very good that they should start limiting connections ;)
 
If they limit conections then they shouldn't throttle the speed of each connection. For example one should still be able to max out their line even on one connection - like the old days. But yeah this 30 connection BS has to stop.

I'm maxing out a 512 line on three threads (which is OK). AFAIK it's almost impossible to have more than four threads running on the IS servers (from about a week ago). If you do the number of `failed connection' errors goes up dramatically.

Yip but in the past two months or so when unlimited connections were allowed, they throttled the speed of each connection - and more people were making more connections in order to try and get decent speeds. As a result everybody suffered when the servers inevitably gave in. It's good to see that they're allowing unthrottled connections again, and limiting it to 4 is even better - now everybody should know what their connection limit is and they should get decent speeds if they'll just stop being greedy.

Let's face it - nobody maxxes out their line 24/7 - and some people just start being greedy and adding more connections if their line isn't maxxing out. 4 connections should sort them out. Let's hope this lasts, if one's line isn't running at full speed then be patient if you speeds are still decent.
 
I'm on DSL 384 and I get about 14kb/s per thread so for me 4 connections are fine 14*4 = 56kb/s > 384 speeds anyway.
 
I've been struggling for over a week now - getting 'remote server down' and 'unable to contact news server' messages from news bin pro. Found out that only older posts work - did one now that was 67 days old. Obviously the syncing of new posts is a problem. Got to retry many times though with 4 connections. Complained to Interprise director about the general IS news problem - she says Charles Glass at IS says the news server logs don't show any problems and besides it's a 'free service' - so why complain? I told her I am prepared to pay for a premium service - I am sure many others feel the same! Personally, I don't think IS cares about a few news leechers :/
 
Sandman try useing grabit, alot of people had problems with newzbin and none with grabit.
 
Altough I get allright speeds lots of the posts are incomplete so I have to get the remaining parts from an international news server to complete my episodes. I dled stargate-sg1 today and it was complete but stargate atlantis was only about 70% complete on the IS server. Anyone out there who was able to dl the complete atlantis episode without problems?
 
Just give me one connection at max speed, thats all I want!

I don't understand, after all the nonsense recently, on wed/thurs it seemed sorted, good speeds.. come back after a weekend away to find that it's back to the same old ****.. what the **** is going on?

Please anyone, anyone at all, please for the love of god tell us what is going on..
