IS News Server down?

Freaksta, do you have a beta installed atm, I have Xp and a Beta but to scared to remove the beta, heard all these hectic stories about how it xxxx ur xp up when u remove vista
 
Got the final earlier today, whats the beta like? Wondering whether to install after exams on fresh pc... Dont feel like having an os that doesnt support half the programs / devices i want to run...?

Whats your pc specs, how does it run on your system?
 
Somebody at IS fixed the news servers or at least tweaked something somewhere.

Both the servers now only allow 3 connections instead of 4 (like before) but at least they are moving now.
6 connections and been getting 40KiB/sec today. Horray! :D
At this rate I'll have to buy a 30GiB account.
Let's hope it stays fixed.
 
This is how it used to be, the joys of being able to max out your line with only 2 threads :cool:

Let's hope it stays this way. At the moment there's no need to download from both servers simultaneously, you can get top speed by using only 1 server by downloading 3 threads simultaneously.
 
Yea damn just tried out news.is.co.za and news.isdsl.net and 205kb/s from a total of 7 threads, very nice!
 
32 bit
64 bit is kinda like 64 windows xp

not supported very well

ziggy as well i wouldnt install over xp

rather use a new or unused hdd for the install

wel i had to because i run raid, dual booting is annoying
 
yea im going to do a fresh install, this pc is currently f00kd. so 32bit it is ;)

Nope havent installed anything Yet... Gonna get my 120gig and partition it... 1 for windows xp and one for vista :P
 
Ye 64-bit has not been release because it is still very buggy and also lack of support.. But soooon....

But im just wondering what are the min specs for vista..
 
erm 64bit is released. v3.newzbin.com -> has a dvd with 64bit+32bit from home to ultimate on it ;)

Recommended for 64bit -> 2gb ram ;)

www.microsoft.com/windowsvista -> you can download a program that will tell you what drivers will have problems / what vista is best for you...

Im going to go buy myself a new gfx card and more ram to run this beast, o ya and a frikken big harddrive cause uncapped is the bomb,lol!
 
I was at a vista launch earlier this week. Some interesting points were made, like the fact that you can't run cracked games/applications due to a new tech in the kernel called Code Integrity (CI) verification. Also no unsigned driver will be able to load (that boxy thing that asks you if you want to continue installing the driver, doesn't come up anymore). Ask wikipedia about a root kit called “blue pill” that bypasses all this, but you won't see game/app cracks using this kit for a while. Not until vista (patched version) has officially been released to the GP early next year. Who knows if the root kit will still work.

In my opinion, if XP does everything you want it to do with no hassles, don't waste your time with vista. A lot of people won't, and M$ is doing everything they can to force people to upgrade. I've installed and used vista myself. There's nothing great about it in terms of productivity, just more RAM burning eye-candy.

I downloaded a movie, (split files-all .001 .002 etc.). Joined them using join32.

Its left me with a file with no extension. I've tried different extensions, to no avail. Part of the file name is xvid. I found the codecs and installed in case. Still nothing.

Any help. Zig, Freak, anyone?
 
erm never heard of join32 but you tried *.rar by any chance? and then extracting it?

No rar files. Only .001, .002 etc. I then tried to open and allowed the to check the net and it came up with that software. It worked on another movie today!

Are you suggesting I change the ext. to .rar ?

Edit: Thanks Zig. Associated .001 and so on, with winrar. Decoding now!
