Right-click the server, go to server properties and make sure that the port is 119. Seems like Grabit is trying to access port 14654 instead of 119

ive learnt, if you getting goods speeds dont tell anyone. Why? Because IS has I's everywhere! mwahaha ;)

i think IS just wants this thread to reach 10 000 posts that's why they keep teasing us with good sppeds 1 day and crappy speeds the next !

I've got some files queued on IS for now but if it drags today I'll switch over and sacrifice some of my international cap. :o

heh, dude, i would seriously cut back on the boasting. I bet there will be some serious port shaping occuring if this gets widespread use.

I doubt they're going to heavily shape all the common ports. Companies like easynews have their own web interfaces where you can download a zipped set of rar segments via http using a download manager. Their nntp server also has a load of servers set up on non standard ports.

yea when they start shaping port 80, then you know the countries gone to sh*t

True, but they will shape all the nntp ports used by common news servers like 119, 23 etc. Also, if everyone uses this method to download then things will get just as pear shaped as it was recently before the traffic shaping with the IS int link being saturated.

Then the question is what is the point of having 4mbit if you cannot use it? I have 4mbit everyone but im limited to 100kb/s download speed?

Isnt it your bandwidth to do with as you please?

If we're talking about international news servers then you'd most likely be using the web interface. I can count the number of times I've used easynew's nntp server on one hand - there's little point.

True. This is the bitch about SA internet at the moment. But like i say, i can guarantee if everyone who wants to knows how to use their 4mb to the max like you are saying, your speeds will deteriorate dramatically..... welcome to south africa :)

I got my brother in London a newshosting.com account and taught him how to use it. Unlimited usage for $15 a month and he maxes out his line. He is on 8mb adsl at the mo (maxes out at 800-850kB/s) and he is going onto 16mb at the end of the month. Will cost him 10 pounds a month. Uncapped.
