IS Shaping traffic/ Network Problems

torrents are going at an awesome max of 8K, while uploading is hammering 4K.

The news server goes at 400k for like a minute then offline for 5. Wth.

This is terrib;e, i haven't downloaded anything this month, its like impossible.
 
Have not had a response from IS and the news server has been down for like 2 days.
 
Still up/down like a yoyo for me from the news server.

I've observed a strange pattern where GrabIt seems to grab a maximum of 1 article per thread before dropping back to 0kb. When it starts up again, each thread will get no more than 1 article before it drops down to 0 again, but it always seems to drop back to 0kb after the article is complete or it has 4k left.

Anyone noticing the same thing?

Any idea what it means?
 
I notice a similar pattern with torrents. It will sit a 0KB/s for a while, then suddenly it will flash say 4KB/s, then 3KB/s, then 2 then 1 and then die completely for another long while. Eventually there will be another momentary burst.

Maybe I can do half a megabyte per hour, for an average of 0.15KB/s.

Not too shoddy for a 4MB/s line... :sick:
 
i feel sry for guys who are paying like R1600 a month for a uncapped account and a 4 mb line and they getting F**K all

i just hope they sort out this little problem or should i say BIG problem i need to download only like another 100mb been downloading from last month :(
 
Everything except HTTP/POP3/SMTP is completely fscked, so I don't wanna hear "minor degradation"! :mad: The bastards seem to be shaping everything except browsing and email, which if true will make me sign up with the devil. I always thought IS was on our side. Pffft
 
well... just came to check my downloads... back to 5 KB/s. If i look in my netlimiter logs it seems whatever shaping they applied they removed it briefly between 5 and 6 and it is back now.

edit: and the shaping started somewhere between 7pm and 8 pm last night.
 
depends what you talk about. I can't comment on the news server but torrents were fine over the weekend and Monday through the day.

Really funny thing though...I should have been capped internationally days ago...and I am not.

Hope this gets fixed soon, i can at least get my series from another place but my downloads are starting pile up..
 
don't know about your ppl. but int was very fast today anyways...
 
Highly odd that I'm able to upload at full speeds, only downloads are affected :rolleyes:
 
This is really crappy, as mentioned IS will take a major hit on local only accounts if they implement this kind of harsh shaping! There will just be nothing else to download if they shape!

Shaping is bad it's the stuff that kills democracy and freedom of speech!

;) ok so that last bit was, well a bit of comic relief because the truth is that we can scream and shout but we can't really do anything proactive until we have heard from the powers that be!
 
*SIGH*.... a full day for 90meg is a joke... i should have done this in a few minutes!
 
If people are paying for unshaped/uncapped accounts, then surely IS can't do this - not without giving some sort of notice anyway.

Do any of the forummers from the ISPs have any more info on it?

I'm still hoping its a fault... but I'm losing faith :(
