Is the Ipad worth getting?

From the Family member who is getting it for me.....this is the second 1 he is importing....but he said i should work on 7%-8%
can he not declare it as a late christmas gift?

Can he get me one also :D

I have done two return trips to the USA in the last 6 weeks, and never been stopped by customs. Both times i had more than my fare share of electronic goods in my hand luggage.

On a more serious note. I am guessing waiting for the iPad 2 would be the best thing to do now right?

Im getting my one next week.....probably will sell it when they confirm the launch of the iPad 2
I'll still make a profit or atleast cover my cost, right?

I also got one, awesome thingy, much to my surprise.
I don't see any reason to wait, ipad 2 will probably be very similar, maybe just things like a memory upgrade, but then prices will probably also change, though it all depends by then what the competition has come out with.

I recently got an iPad 16gig Wifi for R3500. Excellent condition too.

I was also thinking of waiting for the iPad2, but it was too good of an offer to pass at this price.

The only thing that would make me sell it and get the ipad 2 is if the latter has an improved display (according to analysts quite unlikely) or is much slimmer (according to the iPad2 cases also unlikely).

I don't care about cameras/more RAM/better processor

I had a long think about it - I would really like the iPad for surfing/mailing. But in the end I upgraded my netbook yesterday to a Samsung N150 Plus. The occasional Word/Excel work I do swayed me.

Having said that, if the iPad should become readily available here in SA, and for a decent price, I'd probably pick one up in any case. USB ports would make the decision even easier.

I've spent the last day migrating my mother over to a new MacBook Air from a MacBook and while the Air is pretty sweet I'd still rather have my iPad. I've already installed numbers (spreadsheet) onto my iPad and will most likely put pages on next and possibly get a bluetooth keyboard to use for most extensive typing.

I also installed Air Display and being able to use the iPad as an touch screen external display for my 13" MBP is pretty cool. :D

As for USB . . . not sure that is ever going to happen. The USB camera adapter (which you can also use for certain peripherals) is probably the closest we'll ever see on it.

For me, for the moment at least, I don't see the iPad as a netbook replacement - but rather as a niche place between my netbook and phone. Maybe I'll change my mind when I have one, but I'm still skeptical about serious (albeit not that often) spreadsheet and word processor work, and of course the USB issue.

Anyhow, I WANT ONE!
