Is this a good deal?

Hi,

I was offered the following deal from a local community forum:

R66 000 neg; Peugeot 206, 2004 model, 4-door, 68 000km, full service history
(recently serviced), airbags, ABS, power steering, central locking,
anti-theft mags, immaculate interior!

So I was wondering:
1) Is the 206 a reliable car, and do you think I will be happy with it in the long run?
2) Is it expensive to repair?
3) Is the price good for this car with this mileage etc?

1) Not entirely sure about the 206 but I have friends with 207's , constantly at Pugeot sorting things out.
2) Yup like most cars, major parts cost alot.
3)Price is alright for that milage but since it says neg you can bring them down a few K

I had a Peugeot 206 for two years and I never had any major problems.
in terms of spares, I don't know about now but back then almost any part had to be imported so the price was higher and there was also a waiting period. Service intervals are 30000km but the cost is about double a normal service. Also AFAIK the insurance premium should be a lot lower than other similar spec german or japanese cars.
Its a good price, I'm assuming its a 1.6, for a 1.4 the price maybe a bit high.

French cars are very expensive to maintain once the motorplan/service plan has expired.

I would recommend you get on to autotrader and compare it to similar cars advertised. I personally wouldn't buy such an old Peugeot.

Low mileage, good price and a funky car. I'm no fan of French cars but it does look like a good deal. Just check the service history to ensure everything that should have been looked at has been serviced. Also check when the cambelt service will be (if its not a chain driven timing engine) because this could be a pretty big service that happens between 75,000km and 100,000km.

This pretty much sums it up.Not a good deal at all.I know a guy who waited 6 months for a part to be manufactured and then imported.

my opinion - if you really like the car, considering the mileage and overhaul condition, offer as low as you can but not more than 60k.
you can pay 60k for this car anywhere but the mileage would probably be 100.000 and up, with some wear and tear. good luck!
