Is this why it's called eMpTyN?

Data is data. Doesn't matter if you connect on GPRS or EDGE or 3G or HSDPA or HSPA+, etc.

Oh? This extract from the page I linked (here) seems to specify GPRS only.

Data Bundles
If you are a prepaid or contract customer and would like to make use of low cost data, whilst capping the costs of your monthly data bill then this is for you. The GPRS data bundles are ideal if you have an idea of how much you want to spend on data as well as how much data you need. These bundles have been designed to reduce the cost of data usage provided you stay within the bundle limits.

In response to changing market conditions and customer demand, MTN South Africa has introduced time-based data packages and will be reducing its out-of-bundle data rates by up to 84% with effect from 28 March.

How does it work?
The data bundle has an in-bundle rate and an out-of-bundle rate. You pay a flat fee for all data in-bundle, but as soon as your in-bundle limit is exceeded, the out-of-bundle rate will apply per MB.

What can I use GPRS data Bundles for?
GPRS data bundles are ideal for customers who have a good idea of how much they want to spend on data, and how much data they use.

What does this service offer me?
This service offers the subscriber a means of reducing the cost of mobile data, and also capping the cost of data usage.

Am I reading it wrong?

I did follow your link.

That part of the page probably hasn't been updated since EDGE was invented, but at least the prices appear to be current.

Okay, thanks. That R50 for 1 day uncapped seems to be interesting. That'll be R1500pm for uncapped 3G. I wonder what their FUP on that is. Do you (or anyone else) perhaps know?

Thanks for the link.

150MB soft cap? Naa, that's not good enough.

Thanks for your assistance, though.
