Is Vodacare always this bad?

"Water Damage" im fixing for a fight!!

Hi there - I have a 3 month old Blackberry Bold (already had horrible service re problems from Vodacom) and now my keypad has gone dead....

I am about to go in to Vodacom and after reading all these posts am ready for the "Water Damage" answer.

So if push comes to shove I am ready and willing to give a list of everyone else who is dissatisfied with the same answer and see if we can stop this crap once and for all - so PM me your name or whatever if you feel wronged....hopefully it doesn't come to this but if it does then Im ready to lead a full frontal attack....

P.S. the only way I managed to even get a call back from Vodacom re a previous issue was after I finally logged a complaint on the ICASA website - in case that helps anybody...

I have a possible answer for this 'water damage' claim.

Read somewhere that the phones have a sticker inside which changes colour when it comes in contact with water.

Question is if this can happen in high humidity areas as well?

Someone should employ an independent technician to check the phone before it goes in for service. Take pictures as well. Then when they claim water damage, we can see who 'damaged' it.

I gotta come up for vodacom care here. As a student my phone does suffer some rough usage and regular abuse. I had to make use of my warrenty and vodacom care twice before. Once when my samsung z400 stopped charging after i tripped over the charger cable and obviously caused some physical damage. The phone previously fell into a bowl off punch and thus the water damage sticker must have been showing signs. It was after twenty months of heavy use and vodacom duly repaired the phone for free under warrenty and i got it back within a week no questions asked.

The second time was with my nokia 5800. Being a electronic engineering student opening the phone and seeing what's inside is something i do. In doing this i accidently cut off the touch screen's connector cable. Again the signs would have been obvious physical damage. Further the phone's product code was changed, eg unbranded, to update the firmware which vodacom was yet to approve. An action that was supposed to void the warrenty. But again the phone was repaired no questions asked and i got a whole new screen for free. Dunno why they just didn't replaced the small connecter, but i'm not complaining. ;) To my even bigger surprise was that they changed the product code again, when i checked it it was no longer the one i changed it to, not back to their own product code but to a european one and the phone was updated with new firmware again when it got back to me.

Both times times the phones worked perfectly upon return. Maybe I was just lucky but I've only been impressed by their service. Or maybe it's just because it's in the laid back cape and it's easier just to fix it than having to argue with a customer.
