ISP for local Gaming

Hey guys

As per the heading im looking for a local only account for my local games. I have an openweb account but im about to cancel it, the pings during the day are terrible. Its more than double what i get with my international mweb account.

I dont just wana jump in and choose the ISP with the prettiest logo, i was hoping you guys have some experience with this sorta thing and could help me out.

I can vouch for a Local WebAfrica Account, http://www.webafrica.co.za/home/adsl/local/

A friend uses it and is quite impressed, with the pings in War3 and COD4.

Otherwise I normally just use my Capped Telkom Account which to some exent is ok.

webafrica is good , it also does not use cap if you play on there servers.

Web Africa account will be great for local gaming if he stays in Cape Town, but if he stays in Gaugeng or Durban he might want to look at an ISP with IPC in Gauteng, so like TelkomSA. Openweb uses IS for Local Only account, so he probably want something that is not IS based. I don't know who else besides Telkom has local only type of accounts with IPC in Gauteng.

IS based account its best for local gaming. They have IPC's in all major cities and would give the lowest ping locally.

Webafrica and Cybersmart only has IPC in Cape Town.
Mweb only has IPC in JHB I think maybe CPT too but not sure.

Your best bet for local gaming is a IS account.

Indeed. IS has IPC in JHB, and had in DBN for a while. Cavedog definitely made a mistake with his IS IPC statement.

My ping to a JHB based server is: 27ms
My ping to a CPT based server is: 40ms

So you guys are telling me that the 40ms from Richards Bay to JHB and then to CPT is 40ms? It should be 65-75ms then.

So how can IS then only have a IPC in JHB? I don't want to argue but I'm just explaining what I think so I accept if I'm being corrected.

Here's another example of ping with a cybersmart based account:

My ping to JHB based server: 63ms
My ping to CPT based server:36ms

As expected its just a reverse result of the IS account. But the ping is higher between JHB and CPT. Feel free to test for yourself.

And for the Mweb when I had Mweb when uncapped what launched they only had a JHB IPC which was confirmed in that LONG mweb thread. They might have gotten a extra CPT IPC not sure.

Its more complicated than looking at pings to various areas.

There is also the fact that the SP community in SA is not that big, and finding out what someone else have...is actually only a few contacts away. I am not gonna say anymore than that, and I really don't feel inclined to prove a point or argue about this.
