Ok so... I am currently with Cybersmart on an uncapped (shaped to death) 1mbps package (data + line).

I want to move over to either Mweb or Afrihost for a 4mbps uncapped service. I don't game much so I'm thinking of going with Afrihost, opinions?

Anyway, the consensus seems to be that renting the line directly from telkom is the way to go.

So what is my first step of action?

Should I:

1. Transfer line from Cybersmart to Telkom while still using Cybersmart.
2. Upgrade line with Telkom from 1mbps to 4mbps.
3. Cancel Cybersmart data account.
4. Sign up to Afrihost for data account.

And what sort of time period are we looking at? Thanks guys, just want to make sure I'm going about this the right way and not wasting any time:)

Sounds like you've got a plan there, though I don't quite understand the not moving your line though. We offer very attractive bundles if you move your line to us as well. The line infrastructure never changes, so it remains a normal ADSL line at all times (not locked to Afrihost ADSL only). You only deal with us with regard to your line, and we can always move it back to Telkom if you're not happy (all of which happens in the background).

If you're on 4Mbps with us, you're looking at R400+ for line rental plus R397 for data (R797+) vs R697. Worth at thinking about at least?

:)

Food for thought, AfriMan:) Thanks for the advice. How would I proceed with moving my line over to you guys then? Must I email cybersmart and tell them I want them to move my line to Afrihost?

Hi mulacasto

If you will be keeping the line at Telkom, I would advise moving the line back to Telkom and then upgrading. I'm not sure what your budget looks like, but there are benefits having your line with us.

I can offer you a free 7 day trial account so that you can test our network in order to get a feel of what we can offer you. If you are interested, pop me a DM with you contact details and I will arrange for the account to be set up on your behalf.

7 day trial account.... But R899 pm... I cancelled my mweb account going to afrihost now because I can save R202 pm... R2424 per year..Food for thought. I download +- 60gb pm and pay R899 pm not worth it....
