Hi Guys,

I need help please. I am struggling lately to watch live streams on Twitch and Youtube. My internet speeds are good, download 17mb and upload 1mb, but for some reason the streams keep buffering even when setting video quality down to 360p. Up until a month or so ago I was able stream in 720p and even 1080p no problem. I have a Telkom ADSL line and the problem occurs regardless of which device I use, Laptop, iPhone, Ipad etc. When watching normal videos (not live streams) I don't have this problem. Anyone know what could be the cause of this issue?

I could never watch Twitch streams on Tekom's LTE. Got Rain now, and it buffers ahead 45s in 1080p.

AKA Telkom is ****.

I have the same problem with Twitch. I just won't stream 1080p live - yet I can Youtube and Netflix in 4k

Who is your isp?

No idea what the story is with inbrowser twitch streaming, if you want to stream twitch use Twitch 5 browser plugin or Streamlink Twitch GUI app for flawless streaming.

Try this before you do anything drastic:

Download Streamlink and Streamlink Twitch GUI.

Once both are installed open Streamlink Twitch GUI - Settings - Enable advanced settings.

Now go to the third tab, it should be called Streamlink, set the stream type to rtmp and HLS segments to 10.

I second Streamlink Twitch GUI app

Twitch always buffered before I started using that awesome app

I can understand twitch (everybody irrespective of isp seems to have issues) but yt should be buttery smooth on a 20Mb/s line.

If you open https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxdz_OBgDIw and play it at 1440p what does 'stats fo nerds' show'?

So the problem went away on its own and then yesterday started up on its own. I your linked video to test and it plays on 1440p with no buffering issues. Yet, when I watch a live stream on twitch even watching on 160p results in buffering every 10-15 sec. I'm assuming this points to my isp being the problem...

Did you try Twitch 5 or Streamlink as suggested above in post 4.

Sorry, should've said... I tried these but no change. Could it be settings on my router? As mentioned before, internet runs fine for anything else, but watching live streams results in severe buffering even at lowest settings. This so frustrating!

I had similair issues. My internet speed would drop to 2.5mbps down from 10mbps at certain times in the day. Could only notice it during streaming aswell. Disabled my firewall on NAT under my WAN settings and its been running super smooth since then.

Problem with viewing twitch streams is that you ISP has to have very good single threaded download performance to a international server. This is dependent on who is responsible for providing them with international bachaul. Stay away from companies that mainly use Seacom

Very silly comment. Cybersmart uses seacom cable mainly but twitch works perfectly on my 200Mbps Openserve fibre line with Cybersmart.

Afrihost and Axxess on the other hand buffers non stop but speeds are fine.

Well, I have experienced no buffering on Axxess what so ever. Not to mention that, that cable tends to break frequently. Im simply stating my experience with ISP's using Seacom, as you are.
