It all seemed so simple until recently

I will take a hell of a lot for me to change from BlackBerry

I've been planning on a Blackberry, but damn WP7 is looking so mightily fine...

But how do you ever trust MS again after the POS that was Windows Mobile 6?

It seemed so simple not long ago - iPhone was the front runner, Android was the up and coming underdog, BlackBerry was the old fighter with the new style, and Windows Mobile was down and out in the smartphone ring. But that has all changed. Microsoft unveiled a new Smartphone OS, and for once it is good. Really good.

Excuse me !
In what Microcosm? The "Oh Glory is me because iFanboi" one? Oh gimme iBreak.

With Symbian at 47% of market penetration vs iPhone at 14% of same there is no way iPhone can be labelled frontrunner. Here's Gartner 2009 Mobile OS:

Here's another showing an even bleaker situation for iLie

These friggen iFanboi's need a backhand-wakeup...

Fancy OS with lots of nice features built-in and fancy eye candy is all very well, (we already have that with the various manufacturers custom interfaces ontop of win mobile) but what's been the main issue with win mobile to date is that it doesn't function solidly as a phone. Sort of like phone functionality is just a bonus rather than the primary function. Sure, the phone functionality has improved over time but still not good enough for most, barring perhaps the small minority of gadget freaks, who tolerate it purely because of it's convergence (myself included). What we should hope is that Win Phone 7 will once and for all address this crippling shortcoming, cos methinks this will ultimately determine whether Win Mobile will succeed to gain widespread adoption by the masses or simply remain a wishful enthusiasts pursuit.

my win mobile 6.1 phone was stolen recently and because the Vodashop didn't have the HTC Magic in stock, and I needed a new phone asap, I had to take the BlacBerry and I love this phone even though it doesn't have a touchpad like my previous phone.

lol agreed.

mobile 3rd party apps are overrated?
okay mr microsoft, whatever. let's attribute winmo's dismal pickup in the app arena to an "intentional" business strategy...
can't winmo just die already and leave the future to more open collaborative platforms.

+1 about the iphone stats - the sa media in general seems to skew their mobile stats towards america... it's probably an easier cut and paste job.

/end of rant

My gut tells me that is exactly what they did. Win 7 OS have moved the goal-posts, who knows maybe Win Phone 7 will do the same - one can only hope. I will seriously consider this gadget (when it gets released here), especially when you can develop your own Cloud or Silverlight (which in also browser independent) applications to function on it. And yes, it is all about integration/convergence.
