Pennywise: 1990 vs 2017

Imo both performances were really great. If I had to choose my vote would go for the 1990 Pennywise by a small margin.

Bad Parenting + Bad that they weren't stopped at the ticket check
 
Although I kinda enjoyed the new 1, I got to say that the 1st one scared me a lot more. Thinking about it, I jumped to the conclusion, that in 1990 I was still a laaitie and hadn't yet been desensitized enough for it not to be scary. in retrospect though, I think its something a little more of a "hidden in plain sight" deal. IMHO when you look at Tim Curry's version of the clown, there is no foreshadowing of his evil (he looks like he could be a kids party rent a clown), until he does something evil. Skarsgard on the otherhand, is evil, you can see it, there's no ambiguity - he's evil and he wants to kill you and its no real surprise. That's where the horror aspect falls short for me.

Especially cause the way the curry version is done is more in keeping with the way king wrote it.

Ditto.. Said this from the very start, and people disagreed that the original were much better. It all depends how old you were, when you 1st saw the old one. I think there are plenty, who never saw the old one when they were young, rather they just watched it in conjunction with the new one. It's very difficult to compare the 2, especially when you already know how the new one is going to play out.

Same.. 1990 Pennywise for me as well. The one thing that stood out for me in that comparison, is that the new Pennywise is not much of a clown. In fact, I was disappointed that they made him like that, as I would have liked to have seen a bit more humor like the 1990 Pennywise.

Imo, I still prefer the original one, as it was just overall a better watch

Yup the new stuff just does not have that special sauce.
That said The stand, dark tower series, Salem's lot are must reads.

The Stand, hell yes, read it about 4 times, Salem's lot is a must, Dark Tower, got a bit long winded.
 
Sorry for the necro, finally got round to watching, am loving it. Didn't realise was same chaps who did stranger things. Can feel it, love their style, brings back 80's kid memories perfectly.
