Pretoria gets paid rather well, mmmm might reconsider the commute to jhb

It's quite funny how ppl will say that weather, traffic and the beach makes up for being paid peanuts in Durban.

If you can somehow figure out how to make those 3 things pay for a decent house, your kids education, save for your retirement, your healthcare and spoil yourself with a nice car, I'd be very happy to hear it.

these are most likely mostly private companies. As you know, in government and Parastatals the picture is different. I doubt government will do anything about the unfairness between gender and race because it will upset these companies and they bring in all the money for the country.

Most likely small private companies, the larger corporate companies pay at least double the amounts in the report.

Ok lets get the exact figure here. Employees have to pay tax firstly, then medical aid - for some compulsory, depending on the medical plan you might be paying R1000 or more. Tax of R16000 is about roughly R2600. Leaving the avg IT employee with atleast R12000

Where did JobCrystal get their information from?

If these are average monthly salaries, then there is a problem with these stats... at my current project the lowest paid earns more than the "average" IT manager anywhere in the county!

/me calls these figures BS!

:p

Oh, and if this is true, I have no hope for this country... pay peanuts and you'll get monkeys as workers! No wonder that so many people leave!

Wow look at those Salary by ethnicity...PATHETIC. Those stats should be much closer than that across the board, especially since this is Africa.

What exactly is the Government doing about it? NOTHING. Look at the gender payment differences as well. Lol, this f'n world is so f'd up and they wonder why people try to cheat the 'system'. SIGH.

You can blame BEE for that. When you need to fill quota, of course you'll hire more (unskilled) for less. I'm sure the tea lady, reception and support were counted as "IT Staff" to fill quota - pulling the average down. And now with this survey, companies can think they can justifiably pay skilled black workers less. If anything, this is the governments fault.

You're either "Generally Skilled", or a manager.
In other words skilled and unskilled.

Shouldn't managers be paid less than skilled workers? A lot of people leaving are going to get a shock when they see that there's commonly low pay all over.

There could be multiple reasons for the lower pay. And whatever the reasons there is no quick fix.

And people wonder why things like BEE still exist. I listen everyday to Afrikaans white people moan about how unfair it is that they struggle to get better positions because of BEE. I don't hear them moan about the much better salary they take home.

If i work hard I expect to get paid, if I have a skill that is in high demand, I expect to get paid more, if I have extensive experiance in the job position as well then I expect to get paid top notch. Why should race, gender, religion or creed make any difference when it's these factors that determine my salary?

As an IT professional having worked in both Pretoria and Johannesburg, I question the figures. In my personal experience, and those of all the people I know working in IT (and that's quite a lot), salaries in Joburg, across the board, are around R5k-R8k higher than what you can earn in Pretoria for a similar position.

its aslo the history of our country

These stats are skewed...remember that whites are minority...so you have a callcenter which is 90% black which pulls these figures down...

Trust me i work in IT and blacks bring in stacks of Moola...their skill is high in demand and good companies wants to fill those positions with skilled workers.

Strange, I lived in Pretoria for 25 years, moved to Cape Town 4 months ago and got a 25% increase.
Best move I ever made!

Note to self: Stay in development and out of management - I routinely earn more than my managers thanks to overtime/bonuses/commisions/random pay increases which they give me but don't qualify for themselves :)

Not that I'd ever want to manage anyone anyway, I have the people skills of a half brick in a sock.

*Would be nice if...

JobCrystal would include INDIAN:mad: employees in their survey aswell.

Ashes7, whether it's the history of the country or not , it is rubbish that anyone one of those factors should influence the determination of remuneration.

drukkie, whether they bring in money or not, is irrespective. My point is that if a person gets the job, they should get it,keep it and be rewarded for it for the reasons I said , not the other factors.

Sack, Durbs sucks! But at least it has great beaches...that you'd want to swim/surf in.

the 15 min average Traffic time we have on our way to work balances out any kind of monetary gain our Guateng counterparts have to suffer through(not to mention stress and quality of life you benefit from not having to spend 2 hours a day in the traffic).

Report lists 5 types of managerial but no developer positions? Are the only people in IT managers? What a useless review.

Yea Honestly, do they really think everyone is a godamn IT manager, how pointless.

I bet you think females and non whites are getting the raw deal don't you, agh shame.Man I pity your thought process.

Have you compared Durbans rent and general cost of living to JHB? Think again about your statement

Omg please wake up, this is BEE/AA fault, they hire non whites to fill the quota and pay them much less. Then they hire the people with actual skills and pay them accordingly.Blame the guva-MUNT for this.

Geez, I'm shocked people can't understand this simple issue.

Fair enough, but seriously, surfing has to be one of the best sports in the world. No money can replace that in my life, its something I do every weekend with my family and friends. The extra money I'd earn in JHB will prob be wasted trying to entertain ourselves.
