It wasn't me: Vodacom on Cell C network problems

BS. Lately I battled to get any Vodacom roaming or service, even on the stretch of N1 between PTA JHB.

the number of subscribers has increased in the last 12 months.

I wonder how far this will go. Once the company has been called out it can only turn into a fight.

Knott-Craig sounded very serious about this. Laying a complaint with ICASA is not something done lightly, from what I understand.

BS. I get EDGE all the way on the N1 North route.

Not me for sure. I had to use my sons MTN contract phone as my phone could not even find CellC or Vodacom on a network search at the time. Maybe yours are bigger than mine. ;)

If I force my phone onto VC network ... when I'm lucky I get Edge, otherwise I get nothing at all. And my Vodacom SIM in my iPad works perfectly with 3G in the same spot ... so clearly something is not happening with the roaming.

I think the roaming agreement is only for area's where there is no Cell C ... perhaps that's how Vodacom sees their delivery, but not what Cell C expects :p

Who's signature will be on the agreement that was signed in 2001?

Guys .... correct me if I am wrong...but what there not a article a while ago where Cell C said they will start deactivating roaming in areas where they have sufficient coverage .....starting with Cape Town?

Correct - it was implemented, and not limited to the Cape region...

At the end of the day I hope there are no plans to renew this agreement. It is not ideal as I find switching is not seemless because the phone first has to search for other carriers. This happens in the background but only after you lose cell c signal completely. This mean interrupting whatever you are doing due to loss of connection. A delay and downtime while the phone searches for available networks. It find vodacom and connects and you get GPRS or Edge if you lucky. Your connection resumes only for Cell C to become visible again and the switch on the phone happens again.

Just use that new cash injection and plug all holes and drop the agreement. Then no one can play the blame game. At the end of the day Cell C is responsible to it's customers as we pay them. The agreement between them and Vodacom has nothing to do with us and blaming them will not help the end users.
