Jail sentence.

A correctional facility that functions close to as it should is pretty helpful. Going by that video, Pollsmoor and the like are not close to functioning as it should. I doubt we have any in the whole country.

And I lost my faith in human decency a long time ago - most days, it doesn't even exist.

Ye, I had lost mine for years. Then I left South Africa and it has slowly been restored. I don't blame you for not having it any more though. SA can really suck the life out of you, without you realising it is happening.

You think that video is bad.

Check the one of Ross Kemp on Gangs - Pollsmoor

Guess who didn't actually watch the video I posted :D

I'll give you a clue, the video I posted is an extract from the documentary.

I can't not from work :o

O that interview with the leader of the 28's, nvm. Then that's the piece I was referring too. Mongrel or something the guy was called.

ye that poephol that thinks he is not homosexual because he is not the one taking it up the bum. :erm: . I think the most dangerous thing about the guy is not that he will kill you on a whim, it is that he is so stupid, you cant actually predict what his whim might be.

Anything and everything is a whim for him. You do as he says, be it kill or rape someone else, or you die.

As a member of society I would personally be happy with house arrest for the period of her initial sentence. There is no need to punish innocents, the children and husband in this case.

Forward thinking societies would come up with much more humane yet effective methods of correction instead of throwing a mother of 3 children into a hell hole like Polsmoor for what is a non-violent crime.

Agree

Hence dantes inferno comes to mind

Yes, Pollsmoor is a terrible place but this criminal scum knew that prison was a possibility when she was stealing the money.

Also, given the fact that the theft went on for a prolonged period of time 3 years is reasonable. This wasn't a crime of circumstance or a momentary lapse of judgement. She had months or years to develop a conscience and realise what she was doing was wrong but instead she chose to keep stealing until she was caught.

She isn't sorry she stole - she is sorry that she now needs to live with the consequences of her actions and so do her husband and kids.

And you think sending her to a place where people get turned into murderers is the solution?

She knew the consequences when she stole the money. She has only herself to blame.

This "But pollsmoor is evil" argument is pure strawman.

Personally I think what is happening at Pollsmoor is disgusting but I don't think that we should stop sending criminals to prison because of that.

Way to dodge the question.

Ok. Maybe this will answer your question.

Yes. She deserves to go to Pollsmoor. She knew the consequences of being caught for the crime she committed.

She absolutely deserves to go to a prison where petty criminals go in and come out murderers.

The state of the prison has absolutely no bearing on the facts of the case or the sentence at hand. We absolutely cannot keep criminals like this out of jails because they are bad places.

Really? Your solution to problems is to turn them into bigger problems? I can't argue with that, I'm out.

And you think the problems will go away if we ignore them and refuse to prosecute criminals? Equally nonsensical.

I never said that - find the post where I did? There are better solutions than Pollsmoor.

Give them a stern talking to and send them home to think about what they have done ie. suspended sentence and/or house arrest?

That's why correctional facility is an oxymoron.

Do the crime do the time. If you don't want to wind up at a **** prison then do the crime in an area where the prison is of "better quality". Yes it's unfortunate for the family of this lady but she should have thought about that and put her family first. If she was stealing to put her family first then she went about it the wrong way.

Feel nothing, another criminal off the streets. Congrats to the police and anyone else that managed to put this criminal behind bars where she belongs. If people have a problem with it then encourage people not to do crime. Simple.
