Jammers: Speedsters face arrest

You guys might just want to stick to the speed limit maybe? Then you would not have to worry about being arrested.

Imagine guys that break into houses debating how best to evade the law, which is what you guys are doing. And then you complain about "a Lawless country."

The companies that supply the cameras don't like it either. They also don't like their cameras being placed anywhere that isn't likely to generate regular income. People who stick to the speed limit are their worst enemy.

I don't use a detector/jammer so its purely academic for me. What disturbs me about traffic law is its used more as a stealth tax than for actual safety or law purposes.

If you did not break any traffic laws would you pay? What I meant earlier is that a law is a law, break it pay the consequences.

I know now some forumites will come out and say: "why don't they take care of serious crime first?"

There is no difference between someone that robs people and those that break any traffic law. It is criminal.

In theory no, but if I was pulled over at some roadblock and told I had fines outstanding that I knew nothing about and the choice was pay or go to jail then I definitely would pay. I might contest them later but at that point I'd pay, whether they were justified or not.

I think the point is that if there's a finite number of resources who would you rather they go after, the guys breaking into houses and raping and murdering people or the people going 80 in a 60 zone or "not coming to a complete stop"?

I can understand your first point, however that is why the courts are there for traffic offences. And if proven to be unjustified, I'm sure you will get a refund.

However, your second point I struggle to understand, as the policing of traffic offenses is the responsibility of various traffic departments and some metros. I have yet to get a ticket from an SAPS officer. They step when you have not paid your fines and warrants of arrests have been issued, hence the roadblocks you mentioned.

The point I'm trying to establish is that there are different agencies responsible for each area of the law. Would you feel confident in our SAPS if Traffic Cops were doing murder and robbery investigations? They are trained differently.

Ok, then the traffic/metro police can go after unroadworthy vehicles, reckless drivers etc. Aside from that, there's a finite budget available, why not divert some money from the metro cops to the SAPS?

Although I dont think that the problem is not budget, but rather "feet on the ground", then I would be in favour of getting Metro cops re-trained to be SAPS officials.
 
I don't think they care about the money, they care about the safety of road users.

If they only cared about money they would've simply fined every person that doesn't stop BEHIND the line at a traffic light...

They'd be stinking rich in no time. Obviously that's not their mission, guys.
