JAWUG asks for license exemption

Great article! exactly what we are looking for. If we do succeed, all other WUGs who wish to use our Jawug contitution can follow the procedure using it as a template and submit their own licence expemption.

‘Intension to make regulations in respect of license exemptions in respect of radio frequency spectrum, ECS and/or ECNS’

intention

rofl, intension...that is what happens when a poo gets stuck...in-tension

Johannesburg Area Wireless User Group is a Not For Profit group which aims to create the largest community run wireless network in the Johannesburg area.

It's like a huge Wireless LAN in Johannesburg. That's all. Note that JAWUG is not a wireless internet service provider!

What do you want to do on the network

want to be an Online DJ? Low latency Gaming? Video Streaming? VoIP telephony? ... anything..

Jawug is about doing things and experimenting with new things... do things on the network that you would not do on ADSL without being capped in 20minutes :D

quite a cool idea...

surely it poses a security threat aswel though?

but im sure if i was in that area i would be making use of it..

Any network admin worth their weight in salt will tell you - Secure your Data, not the link. You still need your personal firewalls to secure your home LAN.

Jawug is no less safe than being on the internet. Same principles apply. It's an IP network.

Any Flight Simmers on jawug

Any Flight Simmers on Jawug. Has a FlightSim LAN/MAN/WAN been run

Not as far as I know (merely due to no real flight sim fans) but nothing stopping you from joining, and getting something running! - I notice from your location you are househunting in Gauteng - some advice: If you want to join Jawug, speak to us first!! None of us will ever look at another house again, without first climbing on the roof (much to the horror of the estate agent) so that we can check LOS, and Signal! :D

Renting in Honeydew Ridge

Renting in Honeydew until I find a place to buy.
Certainly did a Voda 3G/HSDPA test before signing rental lease. Get HSDPA

I have the Google JAWUG KML File From WUGSA loaded on Laptop, and am using that as a guide

Will certainly be climbing roofs when I look at buying.
My wife has a requirement that GOOD FAST internet connectivity is a must. (We have becomed used to an ADSL line and a 10GB Axxess account over the last 3 to 4 years while at the coast) Am battling to get an Internet connection at Honeydew Ridge. Telkom 080 and 086 numbers and the Clearwater Mall Telkom shop sucks.

My experience is that Telkom in the smaller towns rock compared to Gauteng. I have had ADSL Outage of approx 10 to 15 days over three / four years at the coast. I hear that it is much worse in gauteng

Any Ideas, should I wait for Neotel, or go with a WISP (I may have to stoop this low) - Hopefully Neotel; launches soon.
